Re: os 3.9 kickstart for Zetr0

SUPER SWEET!

Re: os 3.9 kickstart for Zetr0

But what actually is the 3.9 Rom? Just a 3.1 rom with the version changed? One of the custom rom images that are easy to find in the TOSEC and other kcisktart sets? Or something more? A real C= Beta?

Re: os 3.9 kickstart for Zetr0

and another one from me :)

3.9=3.1+updates in eprom => no need to reboot for os3.9

Re: os 3.9 kickstart for Zetr0

Oh OK. Thanks. So it is a custom made updated rom with the bits needed for 3.9. Makes sense. :)

Someone needs to hack it and make a nicer looking kickstart screen than the old one which has been with us since the 2.0 rom though.

Re: os 3.9 kickstart for Zetr0

I put a A1200 test rig together tonight (although a more adequte term would be threw it together) all i have at the moment is 3.0 roms... not a worry I was only testing r0Jaw's Apollo 040.

Man I tell you KS 3.0 boots near instant!!!!! its been that long I cannot believe how long 3.1 roms take to start up WTF!? I soo need to get the tools from dooberay

especially since I just spent $125 on 40 MXIC27c4100 - 100ns Baby! mmmm i feel like chicken tonight :D

Re: os 3.9 kickstart for Zetr0

@coze

It must be well over 20 years since I had an Eprom programmer and knew how to use it

Re: os 3.9 kickstart for Zetr0

I've bought myself a programmer and chips:
Willem EPROM Programmer + 16 Bit EPROM Adapter 27C322 (Sorry about the ebay link, please mute it if it's an offence - and I'll search for a better link, but I haven't found that adapter on the willem.org page.

And I've bought chips:
AMD 27C400 27C400-150DC 4 MB EPROM x 3 These are 150ns - will they work in a500?
MX 27C4100 UV EPROM 27C4100DC *4M* DIP40 2pcs MXIC These are 100ns
2pcs Marcronix MX27C4100 27C4100 27C4100DC Eprom These are 120ns

And I've bought an eraser:
541001 UV EPROM Eraser with Timer, New I need to swap the cord from a US plug to a europlug. For the moment I've got an adapter, but that's unsexy.

Now I'm just waiting for my "Lenovo 250410U Thinkpad Advanced Mini Dock" for my Lenovo Z61m (model 9452-9JG) so that I get a parallel port :)

I should be set? Rite?

@arnljot

Re: os 3.9 kickstart for Zetr0

hello arnie,
as long as the ebay stuff has fixed price (BIN type auctions) there are no probs :) and I believe it's ok to post links to finished auctions, as long as you are not using them as a basis for price driving.

Yup I think you're all set with your ROM burning stuff :) good luck with it !

(PS I had some problems with that ROM eraser. Two of them died on me in one week time  so got a non chinese one in the end)

Re: os 3.9 kickstart for Zetr0

I've added details about Kickstart 3.9 to the classicamiga Wiki today. I used info from the original A.org topic and a few other locations. However, if any of you have some experience with making a 3.9 rom can you have a look and let me know if any of the information needs changing or adding to.

http://wiki.classicamiga.com/Kickstart_3.9

Thanks. :)

Re: os 3.9 kickstart for Zetr0

I'm trying to verify my setup here.

Can I read original ROM chips with this programmer? I have original chips to play with, 31954-02 (3.0 ROM).

But when I read them, I get just funny patterns, mostly 31 1C FF over and over again.

How can I verify my setup best?

Re: os 3.9 kickstart for Zetr0

Hiyas Arnljot,

I believe that you may have set up the programmer wrong in the switches, double check the dip settings before putting on the 16bit adapter.

Re: os 3.9 kickstart for Zetr0

I've tripple checked them.

They are correct, and the software is set to 27C400.

When I look at a rom file in a HEX editor, very near the beginning I see "AMIGA ROM Operating System and Libraries".

Now, I've progressed a little with my fiddling.

Reading the chips now gives me a lot of "random" bytes. Seems legit, but reading both chips gives the same result (seemingly).

What should the "VCC / A18" jumper be set to?
