Re: my mame cabinets

Looking good. Is it a table top cabinet? Or will it have a lower half with coin slot?

And are you using an LCD or traditional CRT?

I keep meaning to rebuild my MAME cabinet, and really must this year, especially with computer parts now so cheap. I'm going to use a large LCD in my rebuild, rather than the huge 21" CRT I used to have.

What controls are you using? Have you designed the control layout and marquee graphics yet?

@Jimbob005

my friend its looking great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cannot wait to get to grips with mine.... i have a 28" 4.3 to use and it does 800x600 screen (60hz Pal) mmmmm yummy :)

its a pity i cannot help you out with an LCD my friend I do wish i could. I have found a couple on fleabay for arounf the £25 delivered.

(1024x768 - < 22ms)

what ever you decided my friend, please keep this awesome thread alive :)

Re: my mame cabinets

Acrade style Boxes....Sheesh!

I use to go in Arcades & play the original Atari Asteroids for 8 hours at a time on 1 x 10p piece if I could get away with it. Rottweiler-like Arcade Guards were a constant nightmare though & we use to go in armed with 4 or five bods & switch around from time to time!

Fun Days. :D

Best of luck with the project Jimbob. Hope the Wall mount LCD thing works out for ya!

Re: my mame cabinets

The Zip Stick was the best IMO, Nice round knob on the top so you could hold it how you wanted rather than the finger moulds. It was also very tough too.

Re: my mame cabinets

I know i am supposed to be away at the mo due to other events in my life but have to post something on this subject!

@Jimbob005 if you require any marque gfx i'll sure have a go for you if u give me dimensions etc (something to keep my mind occupied)
gimmie some ideas when your ready and i'll have a bash!

just did a quick google search to answer some of your questions.
http://www.arcadecab.com/Links.htm

some good info on the above site : as for joysticks i remeber x-arcade & hotrod being the best but i dunno if they'd fit in with your cab etc.

also remeber seeing something about hap buttons/sticks on ebay etc hope that gives u some ideas m8!

Great looking project btw: when your done u can build me one :)

those projects are awesome! what PC hardware will you use? what monitor?
We need updates!!!

Re: my mame cabinets

The best solution for the controls is to buy some real happ controls and joysticks, and wire them up to an ipaq controller.

Best place to start is http://www.mameworld.net as it is a huge resource for mame fans and cabinet builders.

If you want original marquees then I have many from the original arcade machines in vector graphics format, meaning they can be printed at any size.

Also, take a look at the bundle http://www.xgaming.com/arcade_bundle.shtml $39 for this bundle is great.

And for a controller board they also sell this http://www.xgaming.com/byoarcade.shtml

Alternatively (and this is what i would use) visit http://www.ultimarc.com/ the sellers of the i-paq http://www.ultimarc.com/ipac1.html which I highly recommend as the controller to use to control and wire up your controls. And for the controls http://www.ultimarc.com/controls.html

For the actual control board, I would use MDF to mount the controls. Have a look at http://www.mameroom.com/Categories.asp?ID=CONTOLLERKIT for ideas on layouts.
