I was talking to a guy on Lemon 64 about this eprom I had in my fist 128
and could not recall what it was called so he pointed me to this..

THE MEGABIT 128 INTERNAL ROM ADAPTER
For the C128/C128D Internal ROM Socket

THE BASICS

The Megabit 128 internal ROM Adapter is a small circuit
board that plugs into the internal expansion ROM socket
on the Commodore 128 or C128D. Its purpose is to allow
you to use high-capacity EPROMS: 27010 (1 meg.),
27020 (2 meg.), 27040 (4 meg.), or 27080 (8 meg.).

It's very easy to install. Since the board is longer than a
standard EPROM, you have to bend down a couple of
small disk caps on the 128 motherboard before you
snap it into the internal ROM socket. There's also a
pigtail with a clip that has to be attached to a pin on the
U3 chip. Piece of cake. No soldering. Easily removed if
you need to.

Now I had the same thing in the 90's it came with the 128 I got used
and had the same software on it that this one has..
16K version w/4meg EPROM:
Merlin 128 v1.0
Promos 2.0
My Disk Editor
Function keys
Viza Write 128
Viza Star 128
Seq Reader 128
Begin & End Adrs
Fastrac File copy

Basic Data Maker
Monitor 64
Basic Merge
Basic Merge +
Maverick File Copy
Maverick Track Editor
Single 41 Data copy
Dual 41 Data Copy
Single Nybbler
Dual Nybbler
Single 81 Data copy
Maverick File Tracer
Maverick Track & Sector Editor
64K VDC RAM Test
REU Test

32k version w/1meg EPROM:
Key Dos
My Disk Editor
Seq Reader 128
Color 80 Col
BASIC Merge
Function Keys
Begin & End Adrs
BASIC Data Maker
BASIC Merge +

Mine had the 16k version.
Now back to the guy on lemon 64,,we were talking about him maybe making this device since it seems to be public domain now the thing is
he says he only knows 2 people who want one me and someone else so
were tiring to see if there's more interested people..

:coffee:

I've got one in my main 128, along with the 64k VDC upgrade and a internal uiec. Makes a nice 8bit machine.

Which one do you have the newer one from 2009 or the older one from the 90's?

What are you saying seems to be public domain?

What are you saying seems to be public domain?

Just that if I had it in the 90's the other person made there's in 2009
I think he may have just found one from the 90's and copied it and
may have just made it more modern i'm still searching just for this
reason don't want to step on anyone's feet..

Interesting! So this little ROM can make the C128 a ready-to-use computer even without a disk drive or a (dog slow) cassette?

That's surely interesting, but I think I can do it myself if I can grab the ROM content and a proto board. ;-)

Yep you would hold down the Ctrl key while booting up and with the maverick programs it would go right to 64 mode I would like to put
ccgms in mine for telneting and maybe a few more used programs
I like..

this thread is highly relative to my interests =)

Well lets see how many people will want it then I can Email Dan and
see if he will release all the files for making these adapters,or start
making them again..

Deffo Interested Love my C128's

I heard about this ROM a while ago & spent quite a while searching for it without success.

If it it public domain then a few linkys will be great, wiring up a proto board & blowing the Eprom is easy (y)

I've got the 2009 version, The designer is sold out, but posted this over on commodore128.org.

Hi Robert,
No, I don’t plan on making anymore adapters.
I have two left if anyone wants them. I had four altogether.
The gentleman that wrote this message and another are getting
the first two, that leaves two more.

I have the ‘How to do it yourself manual’ about ¾ finished and will
make it available when finished for anyone that wants one.

Dan…

His email is newbury at planetkc.com

Wow! It makes me really glad I purchased mine when he was still making them. I have the 2009 version and really like it a lot. Installation is quick an painless.

When he was still building these, he gave the person ordering the unit the option to set a custom hot-key for bringing up the list of software. I chose the Help key since I don't use it for anything else.

I would probably buy a spare if anyone started making them again. :)

I'm stilling tiring to verify if he's the one who made the first one because
I had this same thing in the 90's I'm going thru old commodore mags..

I did reach out Sep 7 to the creator of the 2009 version (which I bought) to see if he could release all of the details he had available and I've not heard back. I may just yank the thing out of my 128D and see about figuring the darn thing out.
