Taifun (Rebranded Typhoon card) 1230 @ 40mhz. 16mb simm installed Edit: 8MB simm. (Card does not have SCSI)
Onboard battery is fine. Card has served me well for the past 10 years and proved more reliable than my previous blizzard and apollo from the same age.

Asking price: 80 via Paypal + postage.

Would consider a trade for a SCSI to IDE converter and IDE CF adaptor or
PCMCIA CD-Rom and 2MB ram for an A590

Will post pics up later.

Edit - Pics uploaded, perhaps someone can shed some light on exactly which version of typhoon 1230/40 it is :)

Edit 2: Ram has been found to be 8mb, not 16mb as stated previously above.

Hi!

Does this Card have the SCSI chip on board?

Cheers,

Steve.

No, it's odd in that it it's the lite version but has a full 030 processor with MMU fitted, which I thought were meant to have a cheaper 030 fitted without MMU?

I'll update the post to reflect that. :)

I have to admit I am very tempted by this, alas no pocket money, so I figure I should ask if you are interested in any trades?

I have many things of much retrolicious mischief you might like.

PM Me mate, as said in post I'm open to trades along the lines of cd drive, ram for an a590, or scsi hdd or converter etc :)

I have one of these in my 030 A1200, never tempted by an Apollo or Blizzy

Absolutely rock stable & compatibility is 100%, never had a single issue & it takes 32MB SIMMS no probs...

Highly Recomended..

TC

Awesome Stuff =)

/Zetr0 is now making up a care package

This particular Typhoon is the LITE version, but no matter its awesome =D,

I am also tempted in seeing if I can upgrade it to the err.... Heavy version? .... now I need one of the NCR SCSI controllers.... I wonder if stan has any...

Edit made to 1st post and pm'd zero in regards to edit.

So, are typhoons generally held in high regard? From what I can remember about 10 years ago everyone wanted apollo's, typhoons and then several years later blizzards seemed to become the poster boy for amiga accelerators. Just curious how this came to be.

The Taifun is underrated because the lack of SCSI controller, but it is an awesome accelerator on its own and a very good card.

That's why some people think it is pants compared to a Blizzard or an Apollo card.

Some people (the ones mentioned above) don't have a clue... :p

Hello Zetro.

The card should be easily converted to the full version.
under the following circumstances:
You will need the NCR Chip, 2 pieces of the SCSI terminator chips, one I think 74LS14 ( SO14), a few capacitors, one DIODE and a self healing fuse from Raychem.
Oh, and the 50 Pin header.
AND!! you need someone that is VERY good with placing and soldering a 84pin PLCC chip on that board without damaging it.
Good luck!!

If this doesn't go through, I'm also interested, second in line.
Are you still interested in a swap w scsi-ide and ide-cf adapters?

Swapped with Zetro, recieved all the items except for the A590 rom chip. Don't need the rom chip now. Feedback left from both of us also :)

I changed it to 'Swapped' and closed the thread for you, for some reason it shows as Swap though

Anyway, the thread is closed :)
