I've been recommended to get an 030 and some RAM for my A1200 for whdload stuff. It's currently unexpanded.

Any offers?

I have an M-TEC/Viper for sale with an M-TEC Mastercard SCSI addition too. I've offered it here: http://www.amibay.com/showthread.php?p=222025#post222025
but would want to allow the OP on this thread a day or two to consider. If you want to discuss things via PM meantime, please feel free.

And here my buyer's guide (http://www.amibay.com/showthread.php?t=16681) for A1200 accelerators. Well worth a look if you're after a CPU card!

I'm taking quite a bit of heat about this via PM's of all sorts, so I withdraw offering my stuff on this thread & have started my own For sale thread.

D.B's option out of my budget range for this, so wide open for offers :)

Perhaps you could clearify what your budget range is for a 1200 030 board? This woud help out some people I guess... Thanks.

I'm hoping i won't have to spend more than 120 euro since this is only a gaming machine. Preferably less :)

I was actually going for the gvp one because of the remap feature, so I wouldn't have to invest in 3.1 roms. The boards ought to be fairly similar, right?

@AndyLandy: yes, it's just dandy :p Love those cards.

It runs as smooth as silk, never had any problem with it. It's been sitting in my desktop for over 3 years now, but haven't been using it much the last 6 months or so.

So should I go for the remap feature or the apollo? I'm guessing the 8 vs. 16mb won't make any diff for a whdload machine.

Only difference will be if you want to upgrde to 32mb ram, it will be easier with the Apollo as it uses standard simms.

Exactly that. The GVP card takes GVP SIMMs which aren't so common, particularly the 16MB versions. The Apollo card can be upgraded to 32MB with the addition of an easy-to-find 72pin SIMM.

Still, if 8MB is all you'll need, the GVP will serve you very well.

So I can remap the kickstart to 3.1 with the Apollo as well?

No.

I'd go for the Apollo, and then softkick a 3.1 rom.

Softkick, of course.

Thanks :)

And I'd just buy a genuine set of Kickstart 3.1 ROMs. They're well worth the investment!

Of course, if you're just WHDloading, just use whatever Kickstart your machine shipped with and be happy. You don't need 3.1 for WHD.

Good advice Andy, i must admit the first upgrade i ever do to an Amiga is the 3.1 rom.
