I have two VHS tapes that I'm sure that the community wants digitized.

To that end I need a cable which can connect my VHS Tape player and computer:

[Tape SRC VHS:Scart Connector]-------->[Computer:Composite + Stereo Jack in]

I also need advice on what software to use under debian ;-)

@arnljot

Perhaps not the answer you wanted but here goes anyway :thumbsup2:

Send them to me and I'll put them on DVD for you.

Re: W: Scart to composite and audio

If all else fails, I'm also going to try and make one myself if noone has a cable. These cables are out of stock at my local "wierd cable store".

Re: W: Scart to composite and audio

@arnljot

A few questions for you?

What computer are you connecting it to?

Have you got a video and audio capture card in the computer?

What OS are you going to use?

As this is for the community - I might be able to let you have a lead for the cost of postage - I think I've got one hidden away somewhere :laugh:

Computer: Desktop PC with Ubuntu and TV capture card. I have three different I can use. Hauppauge, Terratec, and the third brand.

As stated, the os is Ubuntu. All three tv cards have a composite video in.

All of the cards will accept video in from this cable:

And the computers sound card will capture sound from a cable like this:

Re: W: Scart to composite and audio

Those plugs in my previous post is on the destination side.

This is the plug on the source side:

Now, finally. The videos are the two tutorial vhs tapes for DPaintIV. One is basic and the other is advanced.

They don't have it anymore at my local store. A friend has said he can drive me to a shop outside of town to look for it, but I don't know when that'll be. I'm in a hurry :mrgreen:

Re: W: Scart to composite and audio

You could make one!? All you gotta do is use the Composite in on the RGB socket along with the Audio input. Bits should be dead easy to source by a man of your calibre? :D

RE the solution under Debian; - No idea m8, soz!

Perhaps davideo's gesture of goodwill is the way to go!

Re: W: Scart to composite and audio

@arnljot

The cable build is very easy indeed, I can even offer you the Pin numbers of the scart plug that you need to connect too, (Google !!!!)

Regarding the Debian Software, I haven't got a clue my friend....sorry !!!

TC :)

Re: W: Scart to composite and audio

@arnljot

As with TC and Kin I've no idea on the hardware/software that you're talking about. So I'm sorry to say that I can't help you with that side of things.

I actually saw these videos a couple of years ago. I should have stuck them onto DVD at the time.

I'm sure I've got a lead that will suit your purpose. The only thing is it will have a phono socket for each of the audio channels (Red and White). You'll only need a converter that you'll plug the two audio leads in and then output to a stereo jack. I may also have one of these in the bottom of the same box.

If these are PAL videos - my offer still stands.

If you want to have a play and do it just because you want to - have fun and I hope it works out for you :thumbsup2: That's how I started 23 years ago and have been having fun ever since :LOL:

Re: W: Scart to composite and audio

@arnljot

For once I found the right box first time :ROTFLOL2:

Here's a picture of the lead(s) that will make up to be what you are looking for.

With the added bonus of also allowing you to input into your video recorder by the flipping of a switch and changing the cables over :thumbsup2:

@davideo
Hold on a second

I might take that cable, but there might be a roadtrip today to the wierd cable shop just outside of town. I'll keep you posted.

Re: W: Scart to composite and audio

@arnljot

@davideo

Coolies.

Btw, very sexy tablecloth

Re: W: Scart to composite and audio

@arnljot

I know it's off topic but I have to ask. :nod:

Why is this Video store Wierd ??

As for the tablecloth, It's a very British thing for when we take girls home to meet mom.

TC :LOL:

Re: W: Scart to composite and audio

@TC

They have all kinds of strange cables. I'm sure if you want a cable that hooks up your VCR to your moms heart monitor and keeps it in synch with all kitchen appliances, they have it. Or at least they can have their factory in china make it. It's one of those stores that sell all the crap that tv-shop (home shopping network) has, and then some.

The all time favourite was the "flowbee" a hair cutter that you could fix to your vaccume cleaner, I really wanted myself one of those. But was never brave enough to call in.

Re: W: Scart to composite and audio

Road trip was a success, now lets just hope the tapes are pal.

Close this thread, i will report back later in new thread.

@davideo
Its a very similar cable i got here. Thanks for your time!

Re: W: Scart to composite and audio

@TC

That's a famous cloth - it's been in the background of a few things I've sold.

It's nearly as famous as Aireys chequered backdrop :ROTFLOL2:

@arnljot

No problems - good luck.

Don't forget to let us have the chance to get one when you get them done.
