I have been torn between doing this review or not.

1st off it's Quake 2 on the Amiga!!!:wooha:

2nd, it's Quake 2 on the Amiga:dry:

It does what it says on the tin, it is Quake 2 as you know and love it, it doesn't need a PPC but it does need something fast, with plenty of ram and an RTG card.

If you have played this game on a PC then you know what this is all about, run around, kill everything and get to the end.

It is a great game...........on the PC, it is a PC game through and through and not something our beloved Amigas should be doing (we have thousands of our own games), want to play Quake 2? turn on your PC, you will enjoy it more.

You can run this under Winuae but again, its a PC pretending to be an Amiga, being an Amiga trying to be a PC:Doh:

Still there are always the "because I can" lot out there, and once you have, you won't bother doing it again:LOL:

What's the required specs to play on a real amiga?

Love the quake series of games so being on the Amiga is another nice bonus even if you have to get something speedy for it.

@Justin, are you sure this counts as a review? It's more of a rant

The Amiga port of QuakeII is really only worth while if you have an 060 80mhz+ or a Blizzard/CyberstormPPC though. Here is how it runs on A1200/Voodoo 3 with 72mhz 060:

And now with Cyberstorm PPC/Voodoo 3 :)

It can even run on 060 @66mhz without hardware accel, but it's very slow!

And since I'm in a sharing mood, here it is with Blizzard PPC and BVision

hi justin,im surprised it runs at all on a 060 equiped amiga.:)

have you seen the minimum specs to run it on a pc?

although i have to say you really need a voodoo and warp3d installed to even try it on a 060 based machine.:)

Was it an official release? Boxed etc. or do you require the PC disc and then get some files from somewhere to run it on an Amiga?

Video: voodoo card seems slower than the Bvision card but this depends on the screen mode. I always use a minimum 800x600 screen mode regardless of PPC game.

It will be interesting to see how it performers @100Mhz 68k.

why is there no support for expansion pack for Quake II. The same could be ask of Freespace I & II expansion pack.

with a Voodoo 3 on board can you use OpenGL on it using the amiga. Only asking even if i dont have an Amiga because using OpenGL would increase the frame rate.

Thinking about it is there even a OpenGL for the Amiga ?

Indeed Quake 2 and some other games ported to Amiga use hardware accelerated graphics, there is a MiniGL driver for Amiga OS called Warp3D and indeed it really speeds thing up. My Video showing the 060 version is using Warp3D. My A4000T in the 3rd Video is Software Rendering, but as you can see it's very slow and not really playable...
