Does anyone know if a way was ever found to slipstream SP3 into XP MCE 2005? There was always the problem that it rolled it back to standard XP including reverting Media Centre from 10 to 9.

This chap succeeded, I copied his site a while back and got it to work.

Still feels like a PITA, but does work.

nLite works just fine with MCE. I have slipstreamed it here no problems.

There are a pack of updates you should include in addition to the service pack itself.

They are :

KB873369
KB888316
KB890546
KB890760
KB895198
KB895678
KB900325

Make sure to get the MCE versions of these.

Its a while since I did this but they all worked fine at the time.

People are still saying using nLite downgrades MCE, with the Windows version number then being 2.8, rather than 3.0.. plus WMP being reverted to 9, whereas MCE needs 10 to work properly. However I've also ready that you can reinstall 10 after the OS install to restore it, and then let Windows update grab 11.

Will try playing around with this in a virtual machine later and see what happens.
