I could be wrong, but the 3rd pic from the first set seems like a faceplate for a puter judging from the size. However the fourth pic with the stashed blocks makes things more confusing! :)

Do I spy a Bridgeport milling machine in those photos? Whatever it is, it's painted in good old traditional RAL 6011 Engineering Green. *Nostalgic*

At a guess, I'd say it's an HTPC case of some kind.

I sold and supported Shell metalworking fluids for a good few years. You don't get around machine shops easily, without being able to recognise machine tools on sight. Engineers don't like n00bs who can't talk about their machines.

As the meme goes, "I :censored: love engineering"...

It's obviously got an Amiga spin to it, from the etched panel. Are you building an updated CDTV-style home theatre machine, along the lines of the L'Amiga project you did a few years back?

Or am I just giving you more ideas?

yep the legs (which i am very pleased with) are billet ali.

i used the dimentions from the blatchford park site, it is exactly the same size as the dimentions listed on there:)

If i may make a small suggestion: seeing as you haven't yet fastened the legs, try to drill the housing from inside all the way into the legs, and do some threads on them so you can use screws to secure the legs onto the housing.
Welding would be a bit of a pain moreover once you have to brush and clean stuff..
Are you using Argon for welding the aluminum?

thanks bud, but the powder coating is a long way off yet, need to build all the internal brackets to hold the drives, make holes for the floppy and dvd drive, cut the vents into the back of the case, finish the case upper section, dress it all back, and then powder coat (i seem to have a very tight deadline for this:lol:)

Amazing work. Its a shame these cases were not put into production, always liked it! Even the jokes about it looking like a small hoover. Seen way more ugly cases out there and for its time this one was different in a good way.

Hmm, Argon welding. Quite tricky to master, I believe.

It's not as bad as it used to be, now that modern gases like Argoshield are available. The main difference between Mig and Tig is that with Mig you 'pull' the weld pool along, whereas with Tig you 'push' the weld pool along with the tip.

Cleanliness is a must to stop staining, although you can use strong hydrofluoric acid to clean the Tig welds up on metals such as stainless steel - not for the faint hearted.

well now things are getting serious,

instead of a floppy drive i'm going to have a card reader, it needed to be the same size as a floppy drive so i put this card reader into an old floppy drive case :)

just test fitting the brackets, need to "ventilate" them, straighten/level them up and fix into place.

joystick ports are in as are the power on/off button and power/hdd leds.

still a long, long way to go:)

well if we change the rear panel you can in theory fit any mobo up to 245mm wide by 340mm long so if a sam board is smaller than that then yes it will fit:thumbsup:

so, no pictures this time, but a sort of update, my new plan is to redo the pear panel, this time i am going to put a standard rectangle in the back that will accept a motherboard rear plate.

so V2 of this will be able to fit any motherboard that is less than 245mm wide this will make the case future proof and very upgradable:thumbsup:

Well upon assembly and testing i came across a major stumbling block, the
fujitsu mobo is proprietary as is the PSU :(

not sure how i am going to draw this........

that is is pin out from this PSU hopefully you can see that this is different from a standard ATX :(

solution, strip down the original PSU, extend each cable one at a time (original atx connector wires were only approx 2" long) to approx 10" then move the IEC connector to the back panel.

in order to do this i had to move the internal around quite a bit, but now it all works:D

thanks guys, can't begin to explain how chuffed i am to have the thing boot up exactly like the original (without the hardware crashes)

i have to test some things.......



PCMCIA support was not present (card.resource and carddisk.device are absent), and not needed, as the Walker didn't have a PCMCIA slot.
Exec was bumped to 43.4 (10.3.96) and displayed an alert message upon boot.
expansion was bumped to 43.2 (10.3.96), probably adapted to acknowledge the Walker's fastmem.
scsi.device was bumped to 40.20 (18.2.94), with some kind of large drive support.
strap bumped to 43.1 (8.3.96).
Removal of the 2GB limit from FFS (and possibly beyond 4.3GB)
Used Setpatch 40.16 (14.2.94).
3.2 was supposed to use a new (two-chip) 1MB Kickstart ROM
Other bug fixes and small enhancements

People that wish to start a project like this, should pay a visit to an ex-owner of a Walker, namely Nicholas Blachford http://www.blachford.info/computer/walker/walker.html
He's done a great job in covering most details of the machine, and is a very friendly fella. You will find that he's done his tests in UAE with both the ROM and hard disk images, and it is my understanding that Amiga Forever already includes them (correct me if i'm wrong here).

Believe it or not I have another Walker related update......

yesterday morning I discovered that the rights to the Walker case are still owned!:o, this causes me a problem, by making this case I am infringing the design owners rights:(.

my next step was to try and contact the owner..........

well what a nice guy he is:thumbsup:

after a few email exchanges and photographs being looked at I received this.....

If you can confirm, that's for your own private purpose without any commercial use I don't mind. If you want to Show the product to others please inform, that it is a legal copy authorized by the Owner of all rights for private use only"




this means that my Walker case is now official:)


I have posted this information from the rights owner in order to respect his rights and to acknowledge him and the original designer of the Walker case and built the original cases for the CeBIT 1996.

Awesome Justin! As much as this wipes out hopes for 'mass' replication, at least you can feel comfortable with the one you have. I might as well contact Klaus for my replica too. Actually i'm glad i didn't go further in attempting to make multiple copies now that i know.
So, let's enjoy what we have for now. :thumbsup:

another update for the official Walker:lol:

with the help and advise from the awesome people here, a mini pci to pci adaptor and skilgannons old wifi cards the Walker now has built in wireless with no nasty dongles cluttering up the place:thumbsup:

Those small pieces will do exactly what the internal PCI card does. I picked one from a random site, you can find those pretty much everywhere cheaper.

And this way saving the space for another useful PCI device (maybe an original Voodoo card for some Warp3D mischief). ;-)
