View Full Version : Closed Amiga 500 upgrades - SCSI/IDE, accelerator, RAM

I recently acquired a shiny new (er, moderately-used) Amiga 500, and I'm looking to make it usable for more than just gaming. The only thing I really have left to obtain (for now) is an accelerator of some kind.

As it should show on the left, I'm in the continental US, so it's an NTSC unit; I don't know if that would make a difference for anything besides maybe the accelerator, but there you go. It's currently only got a 1.2 Kickstart ROM, but I'm in the process of getting a 2.04 ROM for it. I'm definitely open to hearing about items outside the country, but I may or may not be able to afford them depending on the shipping cost. I'm trying not to spend more than about $200 US total at this point in time, but I'm willing to consider any reasonable offer.

One A590 HD :)

I should get a finders fee lol!

A final word of advice: drop the buggy 2.04 ROM and grab a 3.1 one. You'll not regret the decision.

I'll consider it. Is the 2.04 ROM really that problematic?

Also, I now have an HD controller lined up, so the only thing I'm in need of now is an accelerator. This isn't nearly as important, but it would be nice.

Not much, but it have a few compatibility problems with games that loads from floppy and some other bugs.

3.1 ROM, otherwise, is so much better, "brushed bits" to low memory consumption and speed gain.

Go for it if you have enough pocket money (this ROM is cheap, compared to what it gives).

I'll definitely consider it. Thanks for the tip!

BTW: when searching for the 3.1 ROM, remember the kickstart version of it is 40.063 (some sellers wrongly call it 40.63).

It comes in one single chip and is suitable for 68000 Amigas (A500, A600 and A2000).

I could sell a bundle of a 68020 accelerator with 4MB Ram + a Kick 3.1 Rom for 160 + p&p.

Thanks, but that's quite a bit more than what I'm looking to spend right now. I may have to wait on the accelerator until another time, but we'll see.
