Hello, I'd like to announce preorder for newcomming device Sakura 4MB PCMCIA SRAM.

Item will be available at the end of August 2014. There will be only one production batch set by number of preorders.

Item product page (http://retroami.com.pl/product.php?id_product=112) at RetroAmi.com.pl

Price of this item: 200 PLN (about 49).

Description:

Add 4MB of Fast RAM to your unexpanded Amiga 600/1200. This additional memory will make your system much faster and allow to run more demanding games and applications.

The product has following features:
- Adds 4MB of Fast RAM to Amiga 600 or Amiga 1200
- Accelerates unexpanded Amiga 1200 to 1.67 MIPS (according to SysInfo)
- Built using modern, high performance 55ns SRAM ICs
- Very simple installation - just insert the card into PCMCIA slot on the left side of Amiga
- Compatible with all PCMCIA friendly accelerators and memory expansions*
- Open source design
- Made by Amigans for Amigans!

* - We did our best to ensure that this card works on as many configurations as possible, but some accelerator and Fast RAM expansion designs are inherently incompatible with PCMCIA slot if more than 4MB of memory is installed. Note that PCMCIA SRAM should work with them anyway, if less than 4MB Fast was installed on the turbo card. Of course, if you dont have any accelerator, you dont have to worry about that.

The following A1200 cards are known to be PCMCIA compatible and should work correctly with any amount of memory installed:
- Blizzard 1230/1240/1260
- Apollo 1240/1260
- ACA 1220/1230/1231/1232
- most other turbo cards supporting more than 8MB of Fast memory
- 4MB Fast trapdoor expansions without CPU
The following A1200 cards are known to be problematic if more than 4MB of memory is installed:
- Apollo/Elbox/Viper 1230LC
- M-Tec 1230/28
- Blizzard 1220 if more than 4MB RAM installed
- 8MB Fast trapdoor expansions without CPU
The following A600 cards are known to be PCMCIA compatible and should work correctly:
- ACA630
- 4MB Fast expansions attached on top of processor
The following A600 cards are known to be problematic if more than 4MB of memory is installed:
- ACA620 (in default PCMCIA-incompatible mode)
- Ninetails (in default PCMCIA-incompatible mode)
- 8MB/9.5MB Fast expansions attached on top of processor

Picture shows a prototype. Final product might differ from the picture.

Warranty 24 months.

Will production exactly meet preorder numbers or will there be a few more, also, when is the end of the preorder period? I'd like a pair of these but I'm not able to preorder right now.

im just wondering why anyone would want a 4mb pcmcia card and a blizzard or aca or apollo 1240/60 that can take way more memory?

Generally we are only planning a production batch based on the number of preorders. We just can't finance additional production out of our own pockets (this is purely a hobby project). However, preorder will be open for a few more weeks, so if you will manage to get the money in that time, you'll be able to secure cards.

We are planning to end the preorder on 30 june.

Our PCMCIA SRAM card is cheaper than any ACA, Blizzard of Apollo. It makes sense for anyone that has unexpanded A600 or A1200 and wants just some fast RAM to run WHDload or basic Workbench. That's the basic idea.

If someone already owns accelerator, there's not much reason to get this card, besides the pure pleasure of having it of course . Also some turbo cards are limited to 4MB of on board RAM (like some Apollo 630 versions), or have difficult to obtain expansion modules (Blizzard 1220). Then adding our SRAM card would be a cheap option to expand RAM to 8MB.

We're going to make a batch of a new, slightly improved revision 2.2. Feature set from the user's point of view stays the same. There will be a preorder at some point, hopefully before christmas.

I am also interested in buying a SRAM card for my A600. I've been waiting almost a year to buy and the other day - 22th of July - I sent email ( radoslaw dot kujawa at gmail dot com). I have not received a reply. I do not hope any answers.

loki
18th November 2016, 08:07
I doubt we will see next version. Last message I received from Mr. Radoslaw is that he has some private problems, and no information since then (half an year ago I think).
So new version is unlikely. :(

The project is open source but it seems that the particular memory used on the pcb is impossible to find... :(
