UPGRADE YOUR AMIGA 68040 ACCELERATOR WITH A 68060 CPU

PRICE IS 28 EACH KIT(INCLUDES WORLDWIDE POSTAGE)
11/5/15 - I still have some kits in stock and ready to ship - 4 kits left

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7/5/15 - KITS HAVE SHIPPED
87740
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This board allows you to add a 68060 CPU to a 68040 socket. AKA the amiga a3640 and the warpengine (and a few others am sure)

HOW THIS WORKS:
THE KIT ALLOWS YOU TO ADD AN 060 CPU TO A 040 SOCKET, THUS GETTING THE FASTER 060 PERFORMANCE.
YOU CAN USE ANY 060 CPU, HOWEVER DIFFERENT VERSIONS REQUIRE DIFFERENT LEVELS OF ALTERATIONS, FOR THE EASIEST UPGRADE, USE AN 060 CPU WITHOU MMU/FPU, THEN YOULL ONLY NEED TO ADD 68060.LIBRARY TO YOUR WORKBENCH SETUP. IF YOU USE A FULL 060 THEN YOULL HAVE TO MODIFY YOUR KICKSTART ROM.

Anyone who has looked into this will know that a few of the components are either very hard to source or very expensive.

THIS IS THE NEWER PCB LAYOUT, (not found on a1k forum)PCB HAS MOVED A FEW OF THE COMPONENTS SO THEY FIT BETTER IN THE AMIGA BOARD

can I use this adapter with 68LC060 MMU ? i know FPU doesnt work but
i need MMU for Maprom , if not I have too buy kickstart 3.1 for my A4k

Pghulme
2nd April 2015, 20:00
You can use any 060, but if you use FPU/MMU then you need to modify your 3.1 kickstart which will require a eprom burner and EPROMs. Easiest way would be to use an EC version

Hello,

I've been reading several of these lengthy 68040-to-68060-adapters threads the last few months, and I would find it great if someone could create a specific thread for feedbacks and benchmarking of these adapters.

Being aware of the relative complexity of assembling and using these kits, it would be very interesting if people involved in these modifications would participate to this thread to share their experience building them.
Indeed, many variables are to be taken into account :

- there are several variations/revisions of these kits
- Different cards can be targeted: A3640, WarpEngine....
- depending on one's willingness to go down the rabbit hole, one can choose the path of "full 060/3.9-eprom-burning" or the simpler "MMU/FPU emasculed 060" with possible system crashs.

And I personnaly found difficult to browse the various "040-to-060" related threads to try and find (few) relevant info about how people attempts turned out.
Besides, these threads are obviously trade related, so I feel a feedback thread would be complementary and, to my opinion, useful for those who are considering this dramatic alteration of their hardware (me included), but still hesitate.

Waiting for your opinion on this topic ;-)
Thomas.

"Then am going to have to retire from the amiga business :-(."

why

Pghulme
15th April 2015, 21:42
lol figure of speech
But I have two very young babies and finding time nowadays to do any hobbies as well as work too difficult, plus there has to be a point where I have to say "I've collected too much stuff!!!"

am am just finding less and less time to do this sort of stuff :-(

Sautebroussailles
16th April 2015, 08:01
@Pghulme: Haha, I've been there mate.

But don't loose hope, and hang on to your stuff still, because there will be a time, a couple years down the road, when you'll be emerging again to the world and find you can have a bit of a hobby again.

If you get rid of your stuff in between, you'll be sorry later.
But what might happen also is that you may have to surrender space from your "man cave", to accommodate for the kids' needs (namely, bedrooms).
And strangely enough, I find women on average are relatively unsympathetic to a man's plea for hobby space, when it comes to babies...
I mean, babies are small enough to fit in a drawer for some time, they don't need need as much space as, say an Amiga 2000, so come on !!!

Sorry for the off-topic, you started it ;-)

Pghulme
16th April 2015, 20:14
I don't plan on selling my stuff just yet. Just trying to let people know that after this week I wont be able to do anymore kits. Normally after I finish a batch I get a lot of people asking for them, but this time am not going to be able to do anymore than are ordered. So kind of a last chance now if anyone wants to order a kit.

Hello, thanks for your comments, as per email if you need any help with assembly feel free to contact me, the picture of the upper board is only to show you which pins on the 060 socket shouldn't be connected to the lower board. The coloured pins are the same regardless of the PCB revision. Just match up the orientation of the socket.

if it helps at all:
88360

Ive chopped off the rest of the PCB and rotated the board. the coloured pins have to be soldered onto the board, but trimmed beneath do they don't connect to the bottom board.

Hello, please feel free to contact me if you need any assembly instructions, however in this case there is a section on the instructions that says about installing the 3.3 regulator. As the regulator is quite fat! One option and the best/popular is to add 3 pieces of very short wire to each leg, so that the regulator partially sits outside of the assembly, you should be able then to sit the two boards together
thanks

there is fpu emulation ! no need full 68060
doom and other 3d games work great not excellent like Cyberstorm but A3640 got nice boost

thanks thomas richter for great LC cpu library and amibay user dw0ntU5m3 (http://www.amibay.com/member.php?7605-dw0ntU5m3) for help with running this libs
