View Full Version : La Cie HDD

Hi folks,

I've found what seems to be an old LaCie 'Coq' HDD amongst a long forgotten Amiga stash. I cannot remember whether this was actually intended for the Amiga.

Does anyone know? Wouldn't mind installing it if yes - it certainly fires up.

If yes, where can I find the drivers? Seems to be very limited info on the web...

Looks like it may have been for the Mac. Is that a 25-pin SCSI cable?

The shape is indeed quite peculiar, to say at least.
But it's just a run off the mill external SCSI drive, if you install it with crossmac, you can read the contents, or else prep it with hdtoolbox, and Bob's your uncle, no need for drivers.
If the built in drive is way past it's use before date, it might cock up though.

That is an "Le Coq"

Some blurb about it:

Industrial designer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Industrial_designer) Neil Poulton (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neil_Poulton) has the longest running history with électronique d2/LaCie. From 1991 onwards, Scottish-born Poulton designed numerous products for d2, including the "Shark' and "FM Tuner' and the award-winning, phallic "le Coq" hard drive (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_drive). Poulton also designed d2's graphics, literature, packaging, trade fair booths, and the two électronique d2 logos. When d2 bought out LaCie in 1995, Poulton was brought in to design the current LaCie logo and the company's corporate identity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corporate_identity).

If you spill some wine on it, you end up with "Coq au vin".
