Sorry for the very noob question... but am I allucinating or an Amiga 1200 v1D4 on kickstart 3.1 is noticeably slower to boot than a v1D1 on 3.0?

thanks, that makes sense.

to sum up just for future reference: v3.1 waits longer to accomodate slow internal HDDs.

on a side note... CF seems the go to solution nowadays for internal storage, but why do I feel on HDD would still be better? Am I just too much of a retro junkie?

you probably are lol

i like using real drives over cf's,its you choice though at the end of the day.

I like cf as they are ten a penny and saves me faffing about if i need to back it up etc :-0 (I do have the adaptor that sits in the slot by the mouse port)

i dont know, real drives are ten a penny as well

you can sometimes pick them up cheaper than cf's.

aren't HDD more reliable than CF? If only by R/W cycles.

that's like an old wife's tale,

it was true many years ago but these days the media would outlast you

lexar give a lifetime warranty on CF cards and say you could format the card 10 times a day and it would outlast you.

another site who tested some cards

This would have been the case a few year ago. Modern CF cards controllers implement block rotation in hardware, which means that the swap is not always written on the same blocks.

We evaluated that it would take 10 years continuously writing on the card before the failure risk becomes significant.
