  1. Checkmate 1500 Build (Part 4)

Well, after all the shenanigans with the DVD drive, its fitted and although the inside isnt tidy, and there are some more things I will do if I get a chance, its closed up and running, and I am loving it.
(Just in case anyone has the same question I did, I would suggest M2 3mm screws to fit the LG GS40N - the 4mm ones I used for the DVD block the mechanism if too tight. )

  2. Checkmate 1500 Build (Part 3)

Well, were it not for amazon delivering the wrong dvd drive I would be close to finished with this now, but that will have to wait for next weekend.....

Anyway, I had the issue with the drive not aligning and so messaged Stephen who pointed out that I have a low profile drive - I dont know if this is standard for an a1200 or what but he suggested raising it with some of the brass standoffs in the pack. Did this and all is good!

So whilst waiting for the replacement DVD ...

  3. Checkmate 1500 Build (Part 2)

Now lets turn to the keyboard.

This was really easy - open it up, screw in the keyrah, plug in the keybaord conenctor and slot in the keyboard, add a few screws and voila.
Now yes, i did manage to slightly thread one of the plastic screws, but hey ho.

    Points to note.
I had intended to try and find a way of fitting LEDs, even if it mean butchering the previous LED board that I now have spare, BUT, I think that if I plug it into the keyrah it will foul on the ...

  4. Checkmate 1500 Build (Part 1)

Well today my Checkmate case arrived! Despite my initial intention to leave it well alone until the weekend as I have lots of work to do, I couldn't resist opening it up and having a go tonight!
Whilst I did read the manual (so I thought) there are a few lessons to learn from today's experience.

    1. RTFM from cover to cover. Even if its not for the setup you are doing.
    2. Don't overtighten anything........
    3. Dont assume anything.
    4. Try not to let your excitement ...

  5. Never straightforward

Deep sigh .......Well, I was trying to get Payback working on my towered a1200, but I have started to have issues with it. Programs failing due to 80000004 errors or something like that.
Googling seemed to suggest possible memory errors and it seems to be worsening, so I put Amiga Analyser on disk and ran the memory tests, and it found errors in the 256mb I have on the blizzard and SCSI kit.
So, removed memory from the SCSI kit and reran tests - all passed
    swapped ram stick over ...
