When I entered the '64 world I wasn't too happy with the price and/or availability of some accessories, so I just designed my own. Hopefully they will be useful to other people as well.

For each item you can either buy the PCB alone, or the PCB plus a kit with all the components you will need to build the accessory. Either way, you will have to DIY, I will not be selling pre-built devices (Temporary exception: I have a couple of built devices available, see below).

Note that some items require the soldering of some SMD components in the 0805 package. For those who are not comfortable with that, I am now offering to pre-solder them for free.
If you require this service, please specify it in your order.

OpenC64Saver - SOLD OUT
OpenC64Saver is an implementation of the Computer Saver device developed by Ray Carlsen.

Note that these kits are not suitable for the faint-hearted, since they require soldering some surface-mount components (0805 package). You will also have to use a variable voltage source and a precise multimeter to set the cut-off point.

Kit contains:

  • 2x100nF 0805 Capacitor
  • 1xZener Diode 4.7V
  • 1x1N4148 Diode
  • 1x3-pin Header Strip
  • 1x3-pin Screw Terminal
  • 2x2N3904 Transistor
  • 1x820 0805 Resistor
  • 1x220k 0805 Resistor
  • 1x2.2k 0805 Resistor
  • 2x1k 0805 Resistor
  • 1x5K Variable Resistor
  • 1xSRD-05VDC-SL-C Relay

Prices:

  • PCB: 3,00€
  • Kit: +5,00€
  • With bi-color led R/B 3mm: +0,50€ over standard kit
  • With RGB led 5mm: +1,00€ over standard kit
  • With 7-pin male + panel-mount female DIN connectors: +2,00€ over standard kit (These are useful if you want to make an external device putting the saver in its own box)

Open2327RomAdapter - 11 KITS AVAILABLE
Open2327RomAdapter is an adapter that allows the use of a 27xxx EPROM in place of a 2364 PROM. This is mainly useful for replacing the KERNAL and other ROMs in Commodore 64 and VIC-20 home computers and 1541 drives.

This kit requires the soldering of three 0805 SMD resistors.

Kit contains:

  • 3x10K 0805 Resistor
  • 2x12-pin Header Strip
  • 1x28-pin Socket

Prices:

  • PCB: 3.00€

OpenC64TapePortBreakOut - 10+ PCBS AVAILABLE
OpenC64TapePortBreakOut is a PCB that breaks out all the pins on a Commodore 1530 Datassette Connector. It is mainly useful for building Tapuino devices.

NOTE: PCBs currently on sale have a BLUE solder mask.

Kit contains:

  • 1x6-pin Header Strip
  • 1x2-pin Header Strip

Prices:

  • PCB: 3.00€
  • Kit: +1,00€

Payment methods accepted: PayPal Family & Friends (or add commissions), Bank Transfer, Satispay (for Italian buyers)

Items will ship worldwide from Italy. All shipments will be trackable and at cost. As a rule of thumb, shipping for up to two-three kits (total weight up to 100 grams) should be 4,30€ to Europe, 5,20€ to the US and 7,10€ to Australia. Add 6€ for tracked & signed for. Ask for exact quote.

Items are also on sale elsewhere.

Please note that I designed all of these boards primarily for my own use. I am open to suggestions and (constructive) criticism. All of my projects are Open Hardware, feel free to check out the KiCad design files on GitHub.

There is more to come, but this is it for the moment. Feel free to ask any questions.

Question about OpenC64Cart 8k, you put up to 4 games on the card and play them with your C64, how are the games transfer to the card? Can you give me a link of how to use it? Thank you

You don't put the games directly on the card, but rather on an (E)EPROM, such as the Winbond W27C512 I have for sale.

To program the EEPROM you need a programmer, I recommend the TL866 from autoelectric, which is widely available, quite cheap and reliable. I use an CS model, but nowadays I think you can only find the II model, which should be OK anyway.

Also note that the W27C512 is 64K, so with the 8K cart you can have up to 8 games.

Declaring interest in:
1x OpenC64Cart 8k PCB only
1x OpenC64Cart 16k PCB only
3x Open2327RomAdapter PCB only

5x 3€ = 15€ plus postage. Will they fit within 100g?

I think they'll even fit 50g, but I only have 2 Open2327RomAdapter PCBs at the moment.

Just a quick update to communicate that I am now offering to pre-solder SMD components for free, for those items that use them. This is because I realized that quite a few people are scared by that!

First post modified accordingly.

Also added 7-pin DIN connectors to be used with OpenC64Saver.
