Hello to one and all, it has been a very, very long time since i last posted up a project here, so let's change that

I had an A1500 case with no innards, no Amiga hardware at all and i wanted a dedicated WinUAE machine for daily use, i came up with the plan to house a 1st gen i7 into the Amiga case, here is what i have done so far, i will keep updates coming as i get there.

1st job was to take a grinder and remove the back of the case

then CAD draw a new rear panel which i then had water jet cut from 1mm mild steel.

Not bad at all! I have been following your facebook posts :)

I have a spare A2000/A1500 case sitting around, undecided what to do with it as yet and I also have some powerful ITX stuff sitting around... ideas forming lol.

Also I noticed you are in Cheltenham, my birth town (still have relatives there).

You cannibal you... HAHAHAaaa Just joking mate, great job done there! It appears you have used a smaller-factor PSU than the normal ATX size? Nevertheless, mighty fine. Your last picture is a bit misleading, showing the optical drive tray popping out, as it appears to be wider than the case side. But it must've been the angle of the camera methinks. Will you be making slices to cover the gaps around the floppy and card reader? I guess so. Nice to have a floppy drive on any UAE machine, i did the same thing for my monstrous A2000 mod, as a floppy disk can carry a single .adf image for retrolicious software loading!

P.S. Looks properly stationed on top of the kitchen appliance, i'm dead-sure the Mrs. has approved.

lol yeah the Mrs is used to it ;)
it is a full sized PSU mate, thanks to Skilgannon for sending it to me

and yeah i'll take another picture with the tray closed, i have the blanks ready to take up the gaps

Most excellent! The wife-factor is a great thing to consider... You should see how mine reacts (or maybe you shouldn't) every time i bring home some cockpit sub-system to work on... The cockpit is stationed in another house, which is currently being renovated, thus i can't do hobby work there. :-(
Anyway, looking forward to seeing this powered-on!

At the end of the day it's your hardware. Do I approve? The concept/idea yes, the execution not really IMHO!
But it you like it and are happy with the results, that's all that really matters. It's at least not a case gathering dust.

Do you have further plans for this?

No one should imitate something like that, at some point you'll regret it.

You get 1000 PC Cases but such a Beautiful Amiga Case you'll never get back to its original state or buy New Case like PC Case.

Sorry, but it's my opinion :(

There are many other ways to build a PC motherboard in an Amiga case,
I have long been considering to plant a PC mainboard in my A2000 Case, even ATX backplane already prepared, but I can not Saw my Amiga babies.

If possible find a broken Case and thus can do everything.
Rust is not a gross damage !

The A2000 is also becoming rarer

Buddhists say that attachment creates suffering. I tend to agree with that more and more as I grow older. A2000 is not some super rare diamond that should be preserved at all costs. I think what he did is a cool project, he put the case to good use and also got to be creative. What's wrong with that?

yes there is a lot more to be done

I have long been considering to plant a PC mainboard in my A2000 Case, even ATX backplane already prepared, but I can not Saw my Amiga babies. and that is your choice, i like doing things that aren't the norm, and in my opinion an A2000 isn't fast enough.

If possible find a broken Case and thus can do everything. it is possible, but i had this case.
Rust is not a gross damage ! i don't recall saying that rust is damage

The A2000 is also becoming rarer

a little blanking strip to fill the gap left by using modern floppy drives/card readers

I think what Juvver's done is absolutely fine. The case pays homage to the past without the hassle of dealing with 25-30 year old equipment. I still collect retro stuff myself but I tend to play retro via emulation these days as my collection is more for my own daft nostalgia. It won't please the retro puritans but each to their own.
