A friend of mine is giving me a BBC Micro. I have absolutely NO experience whatsoever on these machines other than I remember them at school back in the 1990's, all dumped at the back of the classroom.

I don't even know if it works but I'm hoping it does.

Anyhow, how can I get software onto it ? Can I use a TZXDuino as I have one I use for my ZX Spectrum ? Or do I need something more specific to the BBC ?

Turbo mmc is what i use

Thanks. The ebay link says "Acorn BBC Micro B Master 128 MMC/SD solid state disk drive. No. 1 Beeb storage"

I dont know if my friend is giving me a BBC Micro model A or B i'll know tomorrow. Is this the same thing ? Is it also "Turbo" ?

The Model A was a cut-down version of the Model B, with only 16kb ram and some of the ports missing. The model A does not have a User Port so sd/mmc addons like the one in that eBay link won’t work.

This is a regularly updated hardware addon database for the beeb:

the item linked in the eBay ad above is a relatively old design and has been moreorless replaced by the MicroSPI by retro-clinic or the TurboSPI by ifel. The benefit of these newer boards is they are much smaller so can fit on the port connector directly under the machine rather than hanging from a cable.

There are plenty of other options available - you can cobble one of these types of board together for about £2 and use the freely available MMFS sd card filing system

the benefit of buying one of these off the shelf items is they come with an mmc/sd card full of software and a cd with plenty of information on to help you get started.
