Hi folks,
Another possibly interesting one here - a good looking 1571 that wants to live again. Lots of details below but to cut to the chase I'm asking for £30 plus postage and fees as needed.
It's in good (not perfect) cosmetic condition and comes boxed with instructions and polys. It was originally a US drive but has had a PSU transplant at some point in its life making it a UK / EU compatible drive. It appears to be in good condition overall apart from the head which is damaged. It has 2 wires that are detached from the top head and the top head is not providing the correct alignment / pressure for the bottom head to read properly. If I run the drive open and apply very gentle pressure I can get it to read most tracks on the bottom head flawlessly but without that pressure it cannot read a single track correctly. I've tried re-bending the top head but without any good results (I can get it to read about half of the disk OK but not the whole disk) and as I've already damaged a handful of floppies trying to get this to read it's time for me to throw in the towel and pass the drive on to someone else that has a spare head and can repair it properly. I have not cleaned the drive casing at all so there are some minor marks and discolouring but it's generally in very good condition and should clean up very well with a little TLC.
This is how the drive 'reads' (fails to read) without manual pressure / correction applied:
This is how the drive reads with manual pressure / correction applied. It's difficult to apply the same correction as the head moves and I've never managed to make it 100% read the first 3 tracks but as you can see everything after that point reads perfectly which indicates the mechanical parts of the drive are in good working order:
The drive itself looks good:
The PSU PCB shows it's 250V rated (appears to be an original C= part - the part number is PCB ASSY 325188-01REV A):
The polys are in very good condition, the manual is in good condition (some yellowing but flat and no tears) and the box itself is rough (some crush damage, etc):
