I see a pal/ntsc switch on that unit. I wonder if it can pass 50hz through it to the display?

Yes it can, which makes for smooth scrolling on my PAL A500.
Another nice feature is that the SCART audio channels are sampled and muxed into the HDMI stream.

That's the good news so far. I couldn't wait for my super-SCART cable from Oge so I wired up a quick and dirty one with no cleanup hacks.

The results have been somewhat mixed... Colours seem a bit off (power on screen looks blue-ish instead of white). The HxC disk list looks a bit fuzzy.

I've attached some somewhat crappy phone pics for an idea.
If I get time I will try to clean up the signal a bit and see if I can get better results.

Looks pretty nice to me, but maybe hard to tell from cell phone pictures.

Looks ok so far, any vertical banding at all or ghosting around the cursor in workbench?

Sorry forgot to add that info in. There doesn't appear to be any cursor banding or ghosting.

Do you have a set of tests you'd like me to try out while I am waiting for a decent cable?

Excellent, I imagine the Colours will improve once you have a good quality scart cable connected.

I'm gonna grab one of these now myself, native 50hz output is a major feature I want!

If you look back at my posts there is a drive speed test that used high res interlaced mode that failed on the VGA converter.

Ok I went back thru my posts and found it, RSCP (RawSpeed Controller Performance Test - from AmiNet) - the screen just becomes an unstable mess on the AV-1M so hopefully the SCART-HDMI converter can handle it properly?

On the AV1M and the GBS-8220 the lowercase "m" on the HxC screens looks fairly ordinary, in your pics it looks like it is much better defined.

One thing you do need to do tho is set the output to a 4:3 mode or make sure your TV doesn't stretch the pic from 4:3 to 16:9 as that will skew the results - all Amiga Output is in the 4:3 aspect ratio.

Definitely test High res laced output.

That seems to be an achilles heel of a lot of these kind of devices.

    Wouldn't that be > 15Khz i.e. require pass-through?
I'll see if I can give this a test this week some time.

Hi-res laced is still a normal 15kHz video signal, as is super hi-res. Only the Productivity etc. modes use another frequency.
