Post here everytime you get something new!

I've had little luck with the cards I had printed to let people know I collect computers, but when I do get a random call it's proven to be something major. My best acquisition to date is a new-in-box IBM 5150. Today I may have matched that.

I received a call from a woman who said she had one of my cards and asked if I'd be interested in a PET computer. I told her that I would and asked the model. She told me it is a Super PET and I was very happy to hear that. I'd very much like to add a PET 2001 from 1977 to my collection, but any Commodore PET is good.

In the end I picked up the machine, the drive and remarkably also the drive cable. The computer works and now it's time to clean it up and test the drive out.

Came across these at work, what a score! (y)

Already popped one in my A1200, took my 16gb Image, burned it to the CF, used Thomas' fixhddsize tool to correct the RDB, added a 40gb partition, instant win :D

Time to copy across my MOD collection :ninja:

I wanted to show my nearly brand new C64. List of parts here with more photos: https://amigalove.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=967
This was not a cheap build, but the keyboard is easily the best C64 I’ve ever typed on. The only things that aren’t new are the keycaps and a handful of original chips. New case (that I snagged for $24 on Ebay a couple of years ago), new Mechboard keyboard, MK2 Reloaded.
I went with Gatreon yellow microswitches on the Mechboard as they are the closest in feel to the original.

So I wound up having to go into the clinic/hospital for a couple days running to get treated for a (probable) staph infection in my leg, on Monday I was up in the NE of Calgary where one of the hospitals is (and conveniently right across the street to the mall where Sunrise Records/EB Games and a few other stores I go to are in, and also in the are of some of the Thrift Shops I like to go to) and when I was done, wandered around for a while, Sunrise still had a ton of Funkos, and the clearance had been changed to get 50% more off if you bought 3 (from 25%) so I grabbed a few more.... the Dollar Store also had a few...

Hi. So, I have not seen an Amiga in the wild for ages... years maybe. So despite having probably around ten A500's I couldn't resist buying this A500 for super cheap untested. Came with a Commodore RGB cable and an A501. Missing trap door cover.

Anyway took it home and before testing I took it apart, washed the filthy case under a hose pipe, cleaned the motherboard, cleaned the filthy floppy drive and also the keyboard. I took apart the A501 and removed the battery which had only just started leaking slightly... Thank you GP battery for not being a VARTA. Cleaned it up and put it back together.

Testing time.... Hooked it up, switched on and I see the lovely Kickstart 1.3 screen and the familiar floppy drive click. Insert a few disks but it had problems, so I used a disk cleaner and after that it boots everything fine. Picture, sound, controls, everything works fine as does the ram expansion. The keyboard has issues and I couldn't solve it but I had a spare which I used.

Anyway enough babble, here are some pics :)

Well, it's a bit of a stretch to claim that I "got" this today, as I've had the parts and the project going on for a little while, but I did finish it yesterday. I present for your viewing entertainment, the latest addition to the Franken500... A plipbox.

DSC_0335.jpgDSC_0336.jpg

Probably not the best arrangement of parts, but I was pretty pleased with my re-purposing of an old PC serial port header... soldering all those little connectors on the back of it was fun. It was even more fun when I realised that having done all 25 pins, the project actually only needed 13 of them. Ah well, you live and learn. Well, having got all the MiamiDX faff out of the way, my little 500 was finally online after thirty-some-odd years. It didn't much like it. But it worked. Certianly things like NFS and FTP worked more than sufficiently. Probably not going to be watching any youtube videos on it though. Came here, that mostly worked good and Aminet worked great. All in all, great success. The only problem is that I don't like having all those short-circuitable conductive bits hanging around. After not finding anything remotely appropriate in my spares box, I came up with the ugliest solution I think I ever had (and for anyone who's seen the Franken500, that's quite a a thing!) So without further ado, the finished article:

DSC_0339.jpg
Heat-shrink-tubing boys. Gross. But effective. I've set aside the cash for a Build it yourself 3d printer, which I will pick up at the end of the month, all being well. Then I can make a case for this atrocity and also for all the other crap hanging out of Franken500, which now comprises....

3.1 socketed ROMS
512k Trapdoor expansion (replaced battery with coin cell)
ACA500 (not the plus) with 2x 4GB CF allowing 1MB Chip and 1.8MB fast and a marginally better 68k cpu
ACA 1221EC Moving us up to 12 whole MB RAM and a nice overclocked 020 which steps up to 48mhz as required
Gotek floppy emulator, kinda redundant but I like being able to throw ADFs at it
Now the Plipbox

So yeah, it's getting pretty big and dangly. It's over 2 feet wide on the desk with all the expansions hanging out. Oh yeah, I also have on order a kit for a PS2 mouse adaptor, just to hang more ridiculous crap off it. What an amazing machine for its age. I just wish I had that AGA chipset in my life, ya know. Still, fun is being had.

A long drive, but worth it.

A long drive, but worth it.

After a day of negotiating and a five hour round trip to a small town (with SaviorX along to keep me company) these two are the latest Amigas in my life.

A very nice pair of A2000HD systems! Both are now clean and functional with the (just barely) leaking batteries removed.

The one on the left is complete and boxed with the exception of the A2091, which is replaced by a GVP Impact 030 Combo RAM/SCSI/Accelerator card and also has an A2286 Bridge Board.
The one on the right has the A2091 and original HDD. They came with a large box of software/games, a Golden Image optical mouse w/pad and oddly also manuals for A2000s, A1000s and A500s.

I'll be looking for a new home for the non-boxed system and putting the other in my collection beside my Amiga 2000A.

P1240055.jpg

Both SaviorX and I were sad to not have known about the Boxed Vectrex, Boxed Atari Jaguar and boxed TurboGrafx 16 (PC Engine) that the seller had which all came with many boxed games. At least the buyer of those was completely floored when he saw what I was picking up and drooled visibly over the Amigas. :bounceBoingBall:

While waiting for my presumably working A500, that I need for reference measurement to repair my other older A500...

...I happened to buy a A600, a really lovely little piece! :inlove:

I managed to snag a boxed A4000D-030 with an 040 card. Came with tonne of original boxed software some of which was never even opened!, also a bunch of cards like an Emplant with mac roms and manuals, Sunrise AD1012 soundcard with all of its original manuals, A4090, DBLScan video adaptor and an Opalvision. There are also a bunch ofther things like a JX scanner, genlocks, midi interfaces with smpte, video grabbers and leads. Weirdly there is a boxed copy of Populous for the Amiga 1500 (box says not for resale! commodore).

Sadly had to chuck a bunch of books as they were not savable, they were stored badly I assume, was a shame as those books were about video production etc, some even had the disks still sealed in them! going to have some fun cleaning those disks to image them. Oh and all of the boxed software have their keys etc (I think? need to work through it all).

I wasn't going to do a thrift shop trip this month (at least not until I got paid at the end, anyways), but i had a medical appointment in the NE, and of course in the same area that all the shops I go to are anyways, so I thought I'd have a wander around and just see if there was anything that was good... mistake... and demonstrates why I should just not leave the house any more...

41 Smurf figurines from the old 1960/70/80s sets... (a couple damaged, or Super Smurfs missing their accessories (7 actually), but the rest in mostly excellent condition - problem with the Super Smurfs is that the accessories are usually missing, and who knows if the thrift shop packaged (bagged) them separately...and until I know which SS there were, I'd have NO idea what accessories I am even looking for...)

well, payday = thrifting day, found a few things yesterday while out with RuneRider (helping him pick up something he'd bought down here in Calgary) and a fairly good board game score today (6 games in a single Value Village), and also got a few bits off him for my PCjr, as well.

Boardgames
Conspiracy (MB, 1983)
Cherry Ames' Nursing Game (Parker, 1959)
The Waltons Game (MB, 1974)
The Bionic Woman (Parker, 1976)
World of Warcraft: The Adventure Game (FF, 2008 )
New York 1901 (Blue Orange, 2015)
The Voyages of Marco Polo (Z-Man, 2015)
Domain (Parker, 1983)
Dread Pirate: Buccaneer's Revenge - Discovery Edition (Front Porch, 2006)

Books/Media/Toy
Cabbage Patch Kids - The Big Bicycle Race (HC) (Parker, 1984)
Hook - The Storybook based on the Movie (Random House, 1991)

The Smurfs BluRay (Columbia, 2011)
Star Wars - Knights of the Old Republic for PC (disc set only) (BioWare, 2003)

Indian Smurfette (Schleich, 1983) (I apparently missed this one 2 weeks ago...)

IBM stuff
Personal Computer Hardware Reference Library - DOS Version 2.10 (HC) (IBM, 1983)
IBM PCjr Joystick (boxed)

a few things I ordered came in today all at the same time, usually never happens.... a couple games which were on a good sale price from BestBuy.ca, the rest of my Star Wars Minis figs (I noticed recently that I had really neglected Old and New Republic, Republic (especially non-main character Jedi), Separatists and Yuuzhan Vong (partly because I never got much into the non-Original Trilogy stuff, and really only got into the prequel trilogy after the newer movies came out, as well as a few main characters like Boba Fett and Jabba, because they are fairly expensive, considering they are small blobs of plastic...) and a new CPU for my existing machine.

credit card really taking a beating lately...

Gloomhaven was a game I've wanted for a while, but is both huge, and hugely expensive normally...

Games
Gloomhaven (Cephalofair, 2018 ) (this was 40% off, but came moderately crushed due to it's size and weigh, and well..postal......BB gave me another roughly 10% back)
Welcome To... (Blue Cocker, 2018 ) (both these came with free shipping... and Gloomhaven is... massive... 10kg/22lb by itself)

Star Wars Minis
Rebel Honor Guard (x2)(Rebel)
Evo Trooper (x2)(Empire)

Gungan Shieldbearer (x2)(Republic)
Galactic Alliance Trooper (x2)(New Republic)
Galactic Alliance Scout (x4)(New Republic)
Old Republic Captain (Old Rep.)
Old Republic Guard (x2)(Old Rep.)

Yuuzhan Vong Shaper (x2)
Yuuzhan Vong Jedi Hunter (x3)
Yuuzhan Vong Warrior (x4)

Dug Fringer (x2)

CPU
AMD FX-8350 4GHz 8-Core AM3+ CPU (Turbo@4.3GHz) (basically the fastest CPU (125W) my present board will take, should get another year out of the system, any further upgrade needs a new board and RAM as well)

(fortunately this also means an upgrade to my secondary machine as well from an AMD Athlon II X4 640 (3GHz, 4-Core), to the now replaced AMD FX-6300 (3.5/3.8Ghz, 6-Core))
