Hi everyone,

I've read a few threads on here about various P96 screenmodes on TFT's.
The problem I have found so far is that nobody seems to mention if they have 1440x900 working on their TFT's.

I have managed to create a chunky mode for my Samsung 940bw widescreen (native 1440x900).
I have also managed to get it to display at 1440x900 but not correctly, as the display goes past the right-hand side a bit and also leaves about a 50pixel black border at the top above the workbench menu bar as can be seen in the screenshot.
I have tried the auto adjust settings on the monitor and can confirm this is not something I can adjust for on the monitor settings.

What I am asking for are two things:
1. Can anyone that has 1440x900 in p96 prefs, please let me know what framesize, position and syncsizes you are using? (screenshots would be appreciated too)
2. Anyone know which setting I should be adjusting to get the correct height and width so the gaps mentioned above are minimised? Position? Frame Size?

This is a very slow and painful process and with so many variables, I would like to know which to adjust. Would rather concentrate on 2 variables instead of 8!

I assume you have used Picasso96's edit function to adjust the screen, so for the other uncommon modes you have to scour the technical (engineering) web sites where there are formulas to calculate these. I was able to get 1920X1080 on my Radeon (Mediator) under OS3.9 this way, but it has been a few month ago and don't have the links. I just searched the web and found them. I did not find much help on Amiga web sites for this

As said, there doesn't seem to be much info out there for this - if we can find out how to calculate the settings it would be great for a guide/sticky to exist on this site :)

I will also try and find some info on this, if anyone finds links add them in this thread please and I will do the same, once we have enough info I will write a guide (y)

I am also intending to do some Video guides for my Youtube page of common things like setting up Classic Workbench in WinUAE but I wont take this thread off topic with that now, I'll start a new thread for others. But certainly it would be useful to have Video guides for setting up Mediator/Voodoo/etc

Steve.

does that calculator work as i cant get any higher than 800x600 with my radeon but can on my voodoo3

From:
http://www.arachnoid.com/modelines/index.html

Results:

# 1440x900 @ 60.00 Hz (GTF) hsync: 55.92 kHz; pclk: 106.47 MHz
Modeline "1440x900_60.00" 106.47 1440 1520 1672 1904 900 901 904 932 -HSync +Vsync

Thanks for that bdb. SOme useful info on there. Unfortunately I am not an electronics engineer and wouldn't know which of those parameters below to use in P96prefs for framesize, position and synchsize.

1: [H PIXELS RND] : 1440.000000
2: [V LINES RND] : 900.000000

36: [V ODD FRONT PORCH(LINES)] : 1.000000

@all:

Many thanks for feedback on this. I am just trying various sync and position sizes for now to see what it changing when I save settings.

Maybe my configs brings to you a little help:

OK

OK

Well, now we have those references in an Amiga web site post.

FitzSteve, Good luck on the manual!

I'm using mt A1200T on a 4x3 screen at the moment with native screen of 1024x768 but I will be testing with a Widescreen TV when I setup my A4000/Mediator Elbox Tower

Ok I have thus far figured out some more useful info based on examples in the mediator voodguide, picasso guide and what p96prefs has and the modeline calculator (http://www.arachnoid.com/modelines/index.html) shows:

p96prefs->modeline results:

clock = 21: [PIXEL FREQ]
horizontal framesize = 20: [TOTAL PIXELS]
vertical framesize = 10: [TOTAL V LINES]
horizontal position = 18: [H FRONT PORCH (PIXELS)]
horizontal syncsize = 17: [H SYNC (PIXELS)]

I'm comparing the example 1360x768 in voodooguide with the modeline calculator and those are the closest results I can find so far.

I'll attempt to follow this method to at least get some variables close to what they should be for 1440x900.

EDIT:

Ok guys, I have some fantastic news:
I have attached a screenshot of the result (y)
Not the greatest quality snap, but the specs are as follows:

Samsung 940BW:
Horizontal sync: 30-81kHz
Vertical sync: 56-75Hz
Resolution: 1440x900@60Hz
Max Pixel Clock: 135MHz

I provide the above so others with monitors with similar range syncs should be able to use the settings below too:
P96 Prefs:
Clock: 106.36MHz
Interlace: No
DoubleScan: No
Framesize: 1904 (H), 932 (V)
Bordersize: 0 (H), 0 (V)
Position: 80 (H), 3 (V)
SyncSize: 152 (H), 5 (V)
SynPolarity, No (H), No (V)
Frequency: 56kHz (H), 59Hz (V)

Thanks once again to bdb. That Modeline Calculator helped me figure out at least enough of the required settings to make it play nice with my TFT (y)

i would love to see a helpful tutorial on how to add/make new screenmodes in p96.

Roy-Bates, there is an AmigaKit tutorial on that; it is only odd because half of it is drag-and-drop and the other half a combination of trial-and-error and electrical engineering voodoo

Thank you for that doc, Johnim. I hope my discoveries helped too :)

This is definately going to be very helpful to not only me, but probably many others that use mediators and others.

just tried your guide john, and just setup 720 and 1080p on my miggy.

the screen is that big i can baerly read the text, suppose i'll have to get a bigger screen lol.

tried a few other obscure modes as well all working.
