a1200 in an a600 case

Re: a1200 in an a600 case

Hey I had one of those!
it was the Toshiba Libretto 50ct though. The size of a video case and picked up with tons of accessories at a Car Boot sale for 25 magic beans.
I had loads of fun playing with it, but it was pretty limited and the 110 was the 'must have' for the micro laptop connoiseur.
Managed to get Windows 2000 and Vector Linux Dual boot. It ran pretty well considering it was a 75mhz Pentium 1 with 32 Mb RAM and a hefty 10 Gb HDD.
It was a shame to sell it in the end, but I couldn't justify keeping it.
If you manage to wedge a 600 into that case, it would have to qualify as Mod of the Decade.
I for one would have your picture on my wall.

Re: a1200 in an a600 case

its the screen that i would not do or the keyboard may be a minimig??? but i couldnt get the 600 in there i would have to cut the board down 3 times im having some problems with just cutting the end off an a1200...lol

iv had windows xp running on it but now back to 2000

i could have a go

Re: a1200 in an a600 case

Now there's a thought, A Minimig in a Libretto case.
Now that would be awesome, I may have to have a little think about that.

I know they are limited power wise but they are one of the best small laptops Toshiba ever made...

Re: a1200 in an a600 case

hi all

done 3 hours of soldering desoldering and trying so see what iv done wrong with port 2 but its done now all of port 2 working up, down, left, right, fire0, fire1 all working so only one more to sort out is the left mouse fire0 on port1 so not far off now..
so it can be done but i dont fancy doing it agen lol :)

so next i got to hard wire the power on the floppy drive so it all sits right and the lid will go on ..

then see if i can put a ram upgrade or an 030 but i think an 030 will get to hot in there .

thanks james

Re: a1200 in an a600 case

hi all an update on this both ports have been reworked and all working

port 0 (mouse) up,down,left,right, fire 0, fire 1, fire 2
port 1 up,down,left,right, fire 0, fire 1, fire 2

this has been done on an rev 2b board

its taken some time but all done now next up is the keyboard

dose any one want to do an schematics for me so it can be put up on here for any one else wanting to do this?

thanks james (will post some pics tomorrow(p0rn for zetr0)

You've forgotten something... it's also KS3, EC020 @ 14MHz, AND has a proper expansion slot :D (not that I think you'll be able to put much on it - there's not a lot of room left - but if it can be done I'm sure you'll find a way!)

I must now bow down...

Ed: also, Stickied (at least for a while). :)

Re: a1200 in an a600 case

I am in AWE to be honest James

this is a project that only the insanely brave can pull off!!! i am truly WOWED by it all.

My hat is off to you sir.... let it now be known across the land

AN A1200 WILL FIT IN AN A600 CHASSIS!!!!!

now lets see if we can get an accelerator in there :D

Re: a1200 in an a600 case

lol @ mega

@ zetr0 that 040 will not fit how big is that ram card of yours ??

the floppy is very very close to the expansion slot but i carnt see why we carnt put some thing in there .

i need to get hold of another a600 top because i put two port holes in the top but now i got a proper 4 player adapter .

but i can chop this one up for the cdrom hole and then do a good job on the newer one

the bit of board i choped off i could get rid of that all together im only useing one resister on there.

so if any one wants to chop an a1200 down, have a go it takes time to do but it can be done and theres all ways that nice feeling when its all done and booting up in to workbench.

im very happy with this at the moment and im hoping to load it up to the full in time to come i.e subway usb, 030 if i can get one in around 32mb ram (will need a lot of help), cd/dvd rom

thanks all for the kind words

james
