A discussion about expansions for the GBA1000 has begun into the GBA1000 rev4 Build Log.

The mini-Thylacine is a one of them. The idea is to raise enough interest to get a good price for the production of the PCB.
This a minimum surface of 150 inch² for a 4 layers PCB, we'll obtain a price of $20/PCB instead of $33 with the standard production (3 PCBs order).

There is also the possibility to produce the 68060 accelerator board... and the Picasso graphic board (GPU perhaps hard to find).
I have begun also to look at the 32M expansion. No Eagle files available. I'm going to make my design.

If you are interested, I invite you to post a message here. This is just a project for now. I do not even have an idea of how many were GBA1000 product!

An important precision is needed in my mind: All these incredible expansions have been created by Georg BRAUN, the father of our fantastic GBA1000! Georg has made a really great job for the Amiga community. All informations concerning his projects can be found onto his website:

http://www.gb97816.homepage.t-online.de/

I have opened this thread to see if owners of GBA1000 are, like me, interested in these expansions. Finally, if we make the PCBs, and if it's me who launch the production, I wanted to clarify that my goal is not to make profit. The goal is to be sufficiently numerous so that the price of production is interesting.

Like for the GBA1000, the PCB will be delivered nude. We have soldered all components of our GBA, I think we can do!
Table of potentially interested GBA1000 owners:

I'm interested in the GBA1000 MiniThylacine PCB (and also in the accelerator and Picasso PCBs).

I'm provisionally interested too in all of them - depending on prices. I think kipper2k's batch of GBA1000s was over a hundred boards? And there was the earlier batch on amiga.org and probably others too, so I'm sure there's interest for quite a few.

I am interested in 2 pcbs for Thylacine, 1 pcb for Picasso, 1 pcb for 68060 card and 1 pcb for 32 MB RAM expansion.

I'm interested! Count me in for 2 Thylacines, 2 Picassos, 1 060 card and 1 32 MB RAM expansion.

Seems the mini-Thylacine is totally compatible with the Zorro2 slot. Count me in for one piece!

Problem for the PicassoII uses a 208 pin GD5434 Vesa Local Bus chip QFP-208 ... cant buy these anymore, and also uses a xilinix FPGA chip TFQP-100, very hard to solder :(

Also note for PicassoII board on our Rev4 GBA1000,
"Due to the memory requirements of an operation in GBA1000 to Revision 4 ( 68030 CPU) is only useful with additional RAM expansion"

In fact, I have mentionned into the first message that the GPU will be very hard to find. I have search onto the web, and nothing very interesting...
Old PC graphic boards are also very hard to find.:(

Yes, I had seen that the version II of the PICASSO needs the 32M Ram board. It can be used directly only with the GBA1000 Rev5.
I don't read the German, and google translate is not so good. I wanted to give the text from Georg BRAUN to a girl friend who speaks German before to avoid to say something wrong.

The mini-thylacine is plugged onto the front slot of the GBA1000. Like that, the Zorro 2 slot can be used for other board!

Count me in for 1 of each boards...:)

I guess it's about time I start soldering my GBA1000....all pieces are here...I just can't find/buy time anywhere...:)

Problem for the PicassoII uses a 208 pin GD5434 Vesa Local Bus chip QFP-208 ... cant buy these anymore, ......

I think this is not 208 pin GB5434, but 160 pin GD5428. I have checked on schematics and photos (both - original Picasso II and from Georg Braun) and I am sure. Some of these chips are available on ebay, for example http://www.ebay.com/itm/CL-GD5428-8...016?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5660055e50 . I have bought two of them a couple weeks ago... and I am waiting for any talented person who would be able to design the pcb layout.

You are right... and you are also wrong!:wink:
Two versions of PICASSO II are available. Look well into the Project section of the Georg's website, you'll find also the version 2!

- The first one is a 2Mb version. Its performances are:
2 MB DRAM 35 ns bis 60 ns
Pixelclock 28 MHz / 24 Bit bis 80 MHz / 8 Bit

640 x 480 - 24 Bit - 69 Hz

800 x 600 - 24 Bit - 52 Hz

1024 x 768 - 8 Bit - 68 Hz

This version needs the 5428 chip and doesn't need memory expansion. But, the problem is that the design of the PCB isn't available. It's not so hard to do, but time is needed...

- The second one is a 4Mb version. its performances are:

4 MB DRAM 35 ns bis 60 ns

Pixelclock 50 MHz bis 135 MHz (24 / 8 Bit)

800 x 600 - 24 Bit - 56 Hz

800 x 600 - 32 Bit - 72 Hz

1024 x 768 - 16 Bit - 82 Hz
1024 x 768 - 32 Bit - 43 Hz
1280 x 1024 - 16 Bit - 52 Hz

The avantage of this one is the design of the PCB which is allready available. The problem is to find the 5434 chip and it needs the 32Mb memory expansion.

The picture of the chip onto ebay is strange. There is two printed references. No?!

Looks like the sellers water mark on the picture?

Yes, the Cirrus logic reference is added on the picture. This is what I think.
Under, we can read UTSOUCE, a part of seller's pseudo.

Wali7, have you received your ships? Could you post a picture here?

I had no idea there was the second version of Graka for GBA1000. Thanks for hint. Of course, the performance of GD5434 is far better than GD5428, but GD5428 is available, whereas 5434 is not. I know original Picasso II, I had this construction in A1200 equipped with ZII... and also I know its puny performance. Anyway it is better than ECS only... low pixel clock is not such big issue in the era of cheap LCD screens. I will try to solder the first version.

- - - Updated - - -

I have bought these GD5428 14th march. The seller was hkutsource. I do not remember how long the shipment was, but there were no problems.
The actual photo of my chip: GD5428.jpg

right.. but the 5434 is VESA LOCAL BUS.. the others are PCI BUS chips. you cant just drop something else into the board that needs the 5434!
