Has anyone successfully used a 64040 to 68060 adaptor on a GVP 4040 TREX-1 accelerator card? Which 68060.library works with it?

I have one that either fails to boot if I have any kind of 68060.library in LIBS:, or the library seems to have no effect and while it boots, it is flaky and slow as if the library isn't present. An exception is the 68060.library found in MMULib. It seems to partially work, but I constantly get recoverable alerts (3F02803E 08031CD0). The machine is also very crash prone with this library.

I have tried it on an A3000 and an A4000, and with three different adaptors and 060s. The adaptors work fine in other 040 cards. Also tried with OS 3.9 and a freshly installed OS 3.1. As an 040 card it works perfectly.

Kickstart has the modified exec to allow use of an 060.

One thing I have noticed is that when used as standard with an 040 processor, this card will only work with the Commodore 68040.library as supplied with 3.1, or the updated version supplied with 3.9. The library provided on the GVP install disk is the same Commodore 3.1 version.

Phase 5 libraries all fail to boot. Same with GVP 060 library as supplied with their 060 accelerators.

Any ideas?

strange , I had LC060 with A3640 , now I got full 060 rev1 with Cosmos Kickstart 3.1 with special exec and all work very well , I tried Thomas Richter library , Phase5 Cosmos 68060 libs and all work great too , conclusion
I Suspect problem with power or problem with old Capacitors in mobo

Don't think it's the power supply, I have tried on two different Amigas, an A3000 and an A4000. Both power supplies have been checked and serviced (new caps etc). Also other 040 cards work fine on those machines with the 060 and adaptor, including two different warp engines and an A3640. I haven't seen comments from anyone else who has tried the TREX-1 and these adaptors, so I may be the first person to find out it's not compatible.

Speed geek, I have tried that library already. Unfortunately no luck. It locks up when SetPatch runs.

A4000Bear - do you have any of the manual/card detail for this GVP Trex-I card? I have the board's jumpers, and understand their function, but I'm looking for the A3000D (primarily) and eventuall A4000D motherboard settings. I have an A4KT, but I believe this card may not like the A4000T at all.

Sorry, I don't have any manuals or documentation for this card.

I have successfully run it in both an A3000 and an A4000D, don't recall what the jumper settings were, but I suspect clock jumpers were set to 'ext'.

Thanks. I will give it a shot with the 'ext' setting on the A3000 (I have both a DRAM and SCRAM populated unit), and tinker with that as a base.

I have a TekMagic 060 (ultrasound) on the A4000T, and it's rock stable, but maybe this card just doesn't like that environment. It will be a bit before I have an A4000D back.

Thanks for the hints.

Hi,

Sorry for question here. I have too TekMagic 060 (Ultrasound) on the A4000T. Max. memory limit is really only 4 x 16 MB?

Thanks.

Regards, Sveta

Is your GVP TREX at 33Mhz or 40Mhz? What is the revision of CPU? I don't use Cosmos exec. library patch. I use A1k.org patch wich is much better. I also have a GVP040 combo in my A2000 with a 060 adaptor. I used P5 Libraries. If you need help, PM me. I can make you a 3.1 rom with 060 support.

Marmes - Thanks for the offer - I do have a few variants of the 68060 ROMs for when I push an A3640^060 into the A4000T or A3000Ds, or drop the PP&S A2000-68040^060 into an A2000. That stuff is working when I need it to.

My other GVP, the TekMagic (ultrasound) 68060, has the F00000 code to fix the FPU - so no need for it with that. I also tend to use the P5 libraries on the systems when they have 68060s.

This board in question is the Trex-I, 40Mhz 68040 (an XC part, soldered), with the two GVP SIMM32 sockets (I don't have the vertical RAM card). I have 2x 4MB modules for it. It should behave with standard KS3.1 just fine. The only thing is, I have here-say that claims it's happy only in an A4000D. It supposedly doesn't like the A3000 models, or the A4000T. My A4000D (acquired bad) will one day soon be rebuilt on a replacement motherboard, but I have nothing else to test on right now. Symptoms are the host isn't even getting to floppy boot. I may try a DiagROM in the A3000D and see how far it gets.

Oh, and I hope to bump the GVP G-Force 040/33 I have to a 68060 Rev 6 - once I de-solder the 68040. In time...

I had my A3000 open today, and took note of the clock jumper settings. Both were actually set to 'INT'. I have had the Trex-1 in this machine working reliably for quite a few years, originally using KS 3.1 and more recently, a custom 3.9 KS.

Ok, good to know. Knowing the engineer (Jeff Boyer) that made it - he tended to allow software programmed fallback to native CPU with all of the accelerator cards, making INT/INT clocking logical if it had a CPU on the motherboard.

I have only tried it on the A3000D unit with the old PALs, and the DRAM memory. I have to get the other A3000 out with the SC RAM and the newer GALs and try it there (same SDMAC/RAMSEY revisions), but I have to resolve a memory speed mismatch (80ns bank 0, 60ns banks 1/2/3) issue I just discovered on it.
