Hello,

I just want to share something with other Amiga enthusiasts; I'm working on a 3D printable Gotek addon for the Amiga CDTV.
Several experimental units have been printed and now the front and base line up nicely.
Here are some pictures with the results so far:

All the needed files for experimenting with this have been shared on Thingiverse.

Amiga CDTV: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2333370
Amiga 500: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2098110
Amiga 600: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2000074
Amiga 1200: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2102839

If anyone is looking for a replacement front cover for the Amiga CDTV this can be found here:

Now that the fitment looks good I will start focussing on the electrical part.
The idea is to have no looping cable from the outside to the internal Gotek drive, all cables should run internally.
Most of the signals can be used by soldering wires directly to the motherboard near the external diskdrive port.
Note: the select lines need to be changed on the external port because it starts at sel0 which actually should be sel1.
Also the sel3 signal needs to be taken from U10 CIA 8520 and forwarded to the external diskdrive port.
And the MTR0 signal (U15) should be used as signal for the internal drive.

When this has been setup I need to experiment with the different CDTV extended ROM versions to see if the drive will be detected correctly. (Maybe even use A570 ROMs)

That's all for now (y)

Hey that's awesome! I was going to try and do the same thing when time permitted, glad to see it fits!

Thanks for the responses so far (y)

It was quite a struggle to get it fitted nicely, I didn't want to cut the CDTV metal frame and it needed to allign with the height of the front.
The 3D files are up for grabs on Thingiverse, this will probably be the final version of the 3D base and front.

Will you be selling this. Its one of the best ideas for the CDTV

@limboy777: thank you :)

I can always print units on request, no problem.

The reason I'm sharing the 3D files is people can print them or make use of local print services.
I think the shipping costs from The Netherlands might be too high when shipping them in a box.
When being shipped in a bubble envelope you will never know if it arrives in good condition.
This might be different for the CDTV version because it's smaller in size.

Sweet!
Just bought a gotek last week for that very purpose, great timing :)
Any chance you could incorporate the recessed line to match the rest of the front?
And is there room for a micro SD slot somewehere? :)

@frodegh: Thanks!

If you're going to build it please share the results, that would be awesome :)

I've experimented a lot with the allignment and I tried to include the recessed line in it, but there are too many dependencies with other parts.
- The space for the cables going towards the 7-segment display
- The metal top of the USB port will be visible
- Placement of the capacitor
- How will the 7-segment bay look like, because it will have 2mm thick side walls

To include a SD-card in the front, other parts needs to go, there is no room to combine it with the Gotek parts.
I think this is the best layout for these parts.

I'm also looking into using the original CDTV IR remote for changing disk images.
That way no buttons on the front are needed or can be used as a backup.

The response of frodegh got me thinking...

Here's a version with the recessed line in the front: (line is slightly higher giving it a bit more material above the USB port)

Unfortunately due to the depth of the 7-segment display it's necessarry to cutout a small part of the Original CDTV bottom part: (red rectangle area)

Both fronts have been updated and uploaded to Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2333370

And now also in black:

@Kyle, thanks (y)

I will leave both designs available on Thingiverse.

Next step is solving the electronic part, pictures will follow.

Very cool, I like the new design.
My plan was to keep the gotek behind the original cover like some guys did before, but this looks good enough to be permanent.
A bit worried about the cutting though. Would the original cover not stay put after that cut?

Regarding the SD, guess I'll just have it at the back then..
Hope that SD extension cable works:)

@frodegh: The part that needs to be cut doesn't affect the front cover clip position and strength.
It's just a small area of 2mm deep / 4mm long and it's to the left of the two slides which support the front cover.

The original front cover will just slight in as normal and it won't affect it's position or firm fitment.

Great. Any chance you could print two for me?
And perhaps a replacement reset button? I'm not the only one missing one :)
