Replica of rare PC sound card - Innovation SSI-2001.
This card was introduced in late 1980-s and contains one "SID" chip (MOS6581 from Commodore 64), putting it onto ISA 8-bit bus.
Officially supported back than by less then 20 games.
Nowdays it can play MIDI files (via PX Player), *.SID files from Commodore (via beta version of player) and has support for 100+ games based on AIL/MIDPAK, AIL/32 and Miles Sound System.
This replica was brought to life by members of Vogons and Phantom forums.

Features:
  • Uses ISA 8-bit or 16-bit slot on any board (tested on boards from 80386 up to P4-3000 LGA775)
  • Extensive silkscreen on PCB for easy assembling and setup
  • Main chip can be MOS6581 or MOS8580
  • SID clock is configurable: 0.89 MHz (original SSI-2001) or 1.02 MHz (C64 NTSC)
  • Selectable SID registers port address: 0x280, 0x2A0, 0x2C00 or 0x2E0
  • 3.5 mm output and 3.5 mm inpus jacks (+internal output header)
  • If input is disconnected than SID's input is shunted to ground to prevent noise pickup
  • Standard joystick port (0x201) that can be switched off

What was changed from the original board:
  • Fully manual PCB tracing: more accurate trace layout
  • Added extensive silkscreen onto PCB
  • PCB is smaller
  • Added ceramic caps for logic ICs across power rails (there were none)
  • Ceramic/film capacitors now can be either with 2.5 or 5 mm pitch
  • All electrolytic caps now are radial (there were axial capacitors before)
  • SID chip can now be either MOS6581 or MOS8580: added footprint for optional +9 V regulator (only +12 V MOS6581 could be used before)
  • SID clock now can be configured: 0.89 MHz (original SSI-2001) or 1.02 MHz (C64 NTSC)
  • "Audio in" of the SID is closed with 100 nF capacitor to ground (RF protection)
  • RCA audio output jack was replaced with 3.5 mm
  • Added internal audio output header (double mono)
  • Added connections for C64 joystick inputs (Pot X, Pot Y)
  • Custom mounting bracket from PCB material

SSI-2001 replica is available in three variants:
1) Bare PCB

Hi, how many are/will be available? (Very) Interested, but won't have any money until next week.

Cool piece of hardware, but unfortunately my retro PC is completely stuffed with expansion cards already (2x sound cards and 4x gfx cards amongst other things).

Declaring interest in an assembled board.
Ok, I'll start assembling one for you soon.
Should I configure your board for 6581 or for 8580? You can change it later with soldering iron and provided +9 V regulator.

Hi, just make it for an 8580 for now. Like you said, I'll just change it later if neccessary. Cheers!

Assemled board (for 8580) was shipped to Vyothric.
PCB + parts kit was shipped to iPonRMA.

Interested in one board with 6581 variant. :)

What would be the most economical shipping method to Australia? I prefer economy post :D
