...We can rebuild it, better faster stronger.
It seems I've spent far too much time bleating on about Apples and how scrumptious they are. Time, I feel, to try something more meaty than fruit. No, not the smell of awesome wood-grain socks.
But something really meaty in the shape of butchering an entire Elk! Yes, it is indeed time to rebuild my much loved, but rather neglected, Elk better faster stronger... Well maybe not the last bit, unless it's to make it smell stronger by wrapping said socks around the regulator board.
So here's my Elk. Just like Lee Majors it has a certain 80's rugged charm about it. But what super powers lay hidden beneath that creamy exterior?
A MicroSD card round the back, a switch and 3.5mm audio socket round the side? If one were to let this Fall Guy I wonder what might be found inside? Always assuming a Six Million Dollar Elk couldn't take a little stunt work.
I'm rather pleased with my creation, and the excuse to make some bad puns. My Electron will see a good deal more use in future. The next plan is to fit a couple of Atari type joystick ports mapped to the keyboard but I'm having trouble deciding where to put them. I want my Bionic Elk to keep it's as Acorn intended appearance as much as possible. Ports on the right side would seem best, but what if I ever get a Plus 3? Maybe mount the ports at the front under the keyboard..?
As part of the mod to get some modern mass storage built in I needed to upgrade the 8K ROM capacity for driver software. It can now take two 16K images in a 32K EPROM, but I'd really like to go for four images in a 64K EPROM. I could then have ADT and Jaffa's Mode 7 emulation in addition to the AP2 and MMFS ROMs I'm using. If anyone knows how to cram 64K in to a Plus 1 ROM socket and is willing to share I'd really appreciate it.
