Found C64 Video RAM chip for latest model (short)

Hi All,

I'm after a video RAM chip for a Commodore 64, the latest one with a short motherboard and the integrated PLA chip. It's displaying some weird colours so I'm assuming it's the video RAM isn't so good.

The 'short board' is referred to as ASSY 250469 and it can use 2 different types of PLA.

PLA 251715-01 uses an external 2114 (or compatible) type of SRAM.

PLA 252535-01 has the color SRAM built-in.

AFAIK there are 3 different ICs which could be at fault considering the problem you describe:
- The VIC-II ( MOS 8565 )
- The color SRAM (if you have PLA 251715-01
- The PLA itself, which ever type it is
 
try a 4066 or vic first,the pla very rarely fails

thats if its not he the type of board that has the pla with sram built in which some have the 2114 on the board which could be faulty


i think i do have both somewhere,but you will want to discount the pla as i would charge about £30 for the part


EDIT: i couldnt actually make out what you wanted,if it does have a 2114,i can sort one for you

This is the board I have. I do have spare PLA chips as well as some PLAnkton replacements.

This is what the screen looks like. I have just noticed that there isn't any sound working either.
 
Very likely to be a bad 2114 SRAM chip which I can see that your MB version has. I can send you one for the price of postage, however if you can find one closer it might be cheaper. :)

Chip received and installed ... C64 is very happy now. Heading over to leave feedback, thanks Demolition. Thread can be closed now :)
