I finally finished my new version of SysLock v4.0. You can download it from aminet soon, but here it is already for Amibayers! :D

* What is it?
-------------
It's a password program to protect your harddisk from any
unauthorized persons. It has a very nice graphical interface
and sound samples. It offers the best protection and it's also the
nicest looking password program around!
(Just check out other simular programs and you will see what i mean).
As a bonus, I've build in a screen-blanker too. It's activated after 60
seconds if no key strokes are detected. After exiting the blanker screen
(ESC or ENTER key), you will be prompted again for the password.

* How to install SysLock?
-------------------------
For best protection, jou must run the "Install-SysLock" installer by
doubleclickin on it's icon. It copies the data files to their places
on the harddisk. The startup-sequence is being altered and the
SysLock command is put on the first line. It's important to leave
the SysLock command there. If for any reason you want to get rid of
SysLock, then just use the "! REMOVE SYSLOCK !" option in the program.

* How does it work?
-------------------
When you use the program for the first time, you are asked to enter
a password. Just type "password" (default password).
With the cursor up+down or mouse you can choose an option,
then press enter. A smart thing to do is to change
the current (default) password!

* Options:
----------
EXIT :> Quits the program.
CHANGE PASSWORD :> Change your password.
LOGFILE :> Shows input from unauthorized login attempts.
CHANGE COLOR :> Change the skin color of the interface.
FASTROM :> Enable FastROM on 68030 systems.
Very handy on bootup.
! REMOVE SYSLOCK ! :> Removes SysLock completely from your system.

* Bugs?
-------
No, but let me know if you encounter any.

I'm sorry to point you this, but any people that knows Amiga OS will simply hold down both mouse buttons at startup and choose to boot with no startup-sequence and edit the boot script.

It is a very nice effort to give something to the community, but without encrypting at least a part of the boot drive the program will not be very useful.

Nice interface, looks like A500 day's (y) For me enough protection to keep unwanted data protected for family..

ps: I would not trust real data encryption anyhow regardless wich home programmer did that.

Well, then I have good news for you sir! I thought about that of course. After installing the program by the Syslock-Installer, you can get into the "Early Startup Menu" but you can't get into a CLI window!
That's how good this locker program is! In fact it is the only Amiga system locker who disables the boot menu's CLI window! I didn't mention this feature in the ReadMe file because I was to hasty and I forgot it. I'll upload an updated ReadMe file + nice Glow icon to Aminet.
I suggest; Try it out and see for youself!

I can ensure you that the programmming routine I used is completely save!
If you want to use the Early Boot Menu's CLI window again and want to get rid of SysLock from your HD, then just use the "REMOVE SYSLOCK" option in the main program and then everything on your system is back to their original state.
:D

Boot from df0: will presumably get round it too, though? :coffee:

Sstt! :shhh: You can manually change the bootpriority of your HD boot partition to +127 in HDToolBox. No df0: diskdrive can go around that! ;)
But, be carefull.... don't forget your password after that! :readit:
