  1. Suspiciously retro game-themed craft supplies

    I've noticed, with good-natured amusement, that someone working in the buying or design departments at one of my favourite craft supplies retailers, Baker Ross, must be into retro video games.

    Over time, they've added a couple of products to their line-up that are very obviously inspired by Puyo Puyo, and The Legend of Zelda. Take a look at these bouncy balls, and bracelet charms.

  2. Scooby-Doo & Scrappy-Doo (8-bit and 16-bit)

    Scrappy-Doo is one of my favourite cartoon characters of all time. Originally created in the late 1970s in order to rescue the Scooby-Doo TV series from its then-impending cancellation, Scrappy was very popular, and kept the show on the air for around another decade, before networks finally found that the formulas had grown too thin to keep viewers' interest at that time.

    If this perhaps sounds like an unusual account of Scrappy-Doo's history to you, that would be because it's factual. ...

  3. Bloody Adverts!

    I always liked the loading screens of Commodore 64 games - they often gave you a glimpse of a game's world and atmosphere before you got to see it for yourself.

    Yesterday, I revisited an old favourite which was proof positive that some games didn't have very good loading screens...

    And who said that advertising and product-placement in games was a new thing?

  4. Dice!

    As I mentioned in another blog entry, I really rather like dice. I figured that I'd post about my collection so far, today.

    I started collecting dice a couple of years ago, as my interest in modern video games began to decline more sharply than it had been doing previously. This image shows my collection to date, and it's a pretty eclectic one, as you can see (deliberately so - I like the variety).
