Hi guys! I've recently got myself a really nice white PC Engine. I've now made some cheeky little mods to it. Check out the pics in my G+ Album :-

Any way to link the pics in this thread?

Very nice! I still need to make either a composite or S-Video mod for mine. RF is pretty horrible! Where'd you find the information for your RGB mod?

Heather

nice one!!! here is my mod , the PCE was donated to me with a fail rgb-mod and I fixed it... it was a mess and still has burns and some holes.. can't complain though for a freebie!
I went the rgb-amp way , a good friend gtsamour sent me a board he made, saved me from searching for components + time :D
Recently I made experiments to replace the amp with a more awesome TI 7374 IC, but I got mediocre results... anyways, enjoy the pics!

You guys do the coolest things to your consoles. I have to buy my way out of RGB mods

Cheers Guys :)

@Steve, done mate, check original post :) (Was just being lazy)

@heather, I used mmonkey as Justin linked to for the RGB mod, its really great instructions he made, quite easy too, and the RGB booster is simple. :)

The Mod chip came from www.pcenginefx.com A guy there called BlueBMW sells them with instructions. Its the same one I put into my PCE GT last year (thread in sig).

@keropi, AWESOME mod mate! I'm wondering how the picture looks with that lovely RGB booster cct? and do you run it on a CRT?

@slk486, I'll be bringing this little wonder along with my Amiga 1200 and Neo Geo to SSKT9 in Sept, so you can have a play :)

^ the picture is really really good, I chose to use C-SYNC instead of composite for the RGB and that got rid of annoying background jailbars... I run it in both LCD and a trinitron 14" crt, needless to say on crt it is awesome...

@slk486: once I build my own amps (either like the one above or with the 7374 IC) you are very welcome to a free amp+installation :D

@keropi, great stuff mate! Mine looks super sweet on CRT too. I did the mod at work and was viewing on an RGB LCD monitor, it looks ok, but no where near as nice as on a good old CRT :) You can see how bad the pic was before I put the Transistors in the SCART Plug on Talespin. It was quite ok on Don Doko Don, not so dark, but now its super colourful and bright. Fantasy Zone is now a whole new level of hallucination :D

Cheers John and Z :)

Looking forward to it phibs:)

@keropi: it's ok, i have an rgb modded duo-r, but thanks! :D

mmm nice

I think I made a mistake selling on my PC-engine!

err, if I get another one... "just part of the upgrade plan dear wife, never mind... "...

does anyone know anyone who'd do an RGB mod for me? I know I could do it but dont fancy it..

nice pics :)

Thanks for that mate, awesome work as always (y)

@iainjh:

I know Bad_Ad84 does rgb mods and good ones, and he is in the UK too :)

Its been a long time, But I made some additions to my PCE over the last months. I decided to change the simple transistor mod to a more sophisticated one

Firstly made a connector to all the points on the mainboard so access is easier

Here's the board I made from common diagrams found online

Connecting to the pin header

DSC_0697.jpg

Laid flat, i've shaped the board an placed the components carefully so they don't stop the case from closing. I mounted 2 screws through the original holes of the RF unit to hold the circuit in place.

All closed together

I got a very nice (but broken) CD drive

DSC_0564.jpg

It looks almost as good as new

DSC_0565.jpg

The problem turns out to be the common issue with a worn middle gear

DSC_0622.jpg

Luckily these gears can be bought and replaced!

New one in place

DSC_0627.jpg

I found a very clean Interface too

Looks nice all together

DSC_0707.jpg

And to finish off I made a custom Lead to switch between internal PCE audio or mixed audio from the CD drive + PCE. Good for when I want to use the PCE alone.

And now to test it out with the amazing Ginga Fukei Densetsu Sapphire! (and before your eyes pop out in disbeleif, no, its not an original release, its a cheap Bootleg that cost a fraction of the price.... but it looks original!)

YES! This game was one of the last ones released by Hudson on PCE and its AMAZING! Requires the Arcade PRO card to boost the PCE memory, but its incredible to think this game is running on an 8 Bit system.

So that's My PCE all finished :)
