Closed New board: The VIC-II² - PAL/NTSC switch board for Commodore 64

Oh, those headers... Oh, those headers... Yes, those headers are GREAT for more cleanly fitting into a variety of sockets, but since they are machined rather than cast, they are less forgiving after being bent. Looks like Peri gave you a link that should get you replacements, but a quick note...

Not sure, as that could be any number of things, but here are some things you can try: If there is a buzzing from the relays, double check to make sure you're attaching to the appropriate leads on the power switch. Also, if you have any after-market devices like the "C-64 Saver", this COULD...

Ah. 250425 and 250466 boards (BLUE VIC-II card), clip the hooks to the BOTTOM middle and BOTTOM right pins of the C64 power switch. This has been corrected in the manual.

Take the DPDT switch out of the mix and ONLY use the hook clips (attached to the indicated leads on the C64 switch). Attach them to the P-En and N-En pins (middle two) on the 8-pin. It should latch and NOT oscillate. It will be EITHER on PAL or NTSC, depending on which lead you have on which...

Why 64c-style cases didn't work for this... Why 64c-style cases didn't work for this... By the way, below is a picture of the versions we tested for use on 250407 and 250425/250466 motherboards in the 64c-style cases. Space-wise, they fit GREAT, even with heat sinks! BUT The main problem (as...

Another set of updates: - Boards have been reworked to fit in either breadbin or 64c-style cases... took some careful shifting of parts closer to the RF box while keeping the analog lines as short as possible - Both 250407 and 250425/250466 motherboard versions supported (2 different boards) -...

Quick update: - We're testing the final candidate boards. They work but we need to make sure our installation instructions are clear, correct, and concise. - It is a single-board solution (not two as previously mentioned), but there will be both a 250407 and a 250425/250466 version of the board...

VIC-II Squared v0.8-M PCBs Due Today VIC-II Squared v0.8-M PCBs Due Today Hey, the "manual" version of the VIC-II Squared PCBs are due today. This involves using a manual 10p2t push-on/push-off switch that toggles the ten circuits needed to switch between PAL and NTSC. I'm pretty confident...

Update 21 FEB 2019 Update 21 FEB 2019 Quick update: single board solution kinda worked... - Optocouplers aren't going to work, unfortunately. Changing to solid state relays. - System does work when optocouplers are replaces with wire jumpers, but there is some noise in the screen. - I had to...

UPDATE UPDATE Hey, Perifractic has been keeping you all updated, but I apologize that I haven't posted on the details in a while. Here are some salient points on where we're at: - I've confirmed continuity through cable (50pin 0.5mm pitch FFC "reverse" 300mm long) between the backpack board...

Hi Francois! First of all, I’m a huge fan of the PLAnkton. It’s a genius piece of engineering. I am humbled to be conversing with you! You’re right. There’s no reason this solution shouldn’t work on the 250466, other than I don’t (yet) have one of these boards to test with. The “VIC-II Box”...

If the chips on that board are 8562/8565 (I believe they are), this solution should work. We switch the Vdd line (pin 13 on the VIC-II) regardless of whether it's the 5v & 12v version (6567/6569) or the 5v only version (8562/8565), but it cannot be a mismatch between either the motherboard or...

VIC-II^2 Development Process VIC-II^2 Development Process First, I want to thank Perifractic for including me on this adventure. I haven't owned a C64 since 1987, and it was this engineering effort that got me interested again. Anyway, thank you all for your ideas, interest, and support. Here...
