In that case brand doesnt matter, every 500 I've owned (ok only 3) has had a chinon so i just assumed it was the norm

got myself a new 2.0 rom and a new gary chip just to be sure :)

its the same one, i dont know why but i just dont want to part with it :( i was getting the occasonal error at boot so i wonder if te rom was on the blink anyway, i think ill try a 1.3 chip - only like £2 on ebay to see if it lives again, if that fails then i will have to think about getting rid...

is it likely ive killed the rom then or could i have damaged other bits? cnt believe ive done this i got all the fiddely socket soldering done jsut fine.... then this!

hi, 1. ive been trying to resurect my 500+ from the dead, after repairing gary socket and some battery mess she booted nicely but wouldnt read from floppy, modded another drive but to no avail, i then set about reseating all chips but i slotted the rom back in at the top of the socket, not 1...
