    Received reply from Michael, sadly, it seems that the most common casualty when plugging the external headers in backwards is the primary chip, which I'm not going to try to replace. :) I'll be sending it back to him for repair, and will tackle the ZIII issue when it gets back. Cheers...

    No odd libraries in the flashROM. I'm looking at the hardware problem, and poking around with my multimeter. With the internal (working) port, when I plug in a flash drive and measure the USB leads, I get +5V on the +5V, and about +3V on one of the data lines. With the external (non-working)...
