Amiga 500

Hi All,

In an effort to expand my amiga collection I am looking for an amiga 500 if anyone has one going spare.

I would prefere an amiga 500 as apposed to a 500+ if possible but I wont rule one out. I would also prefere one in good condition and with modulator etc, if possible

Am I right in thinking tha Amiga 500+ is not compatible with some games?

:help: Oh.... and for the love of god can someone please tell me were I can get rolls of floppy disk labels from (Full Face) as they seem to be as rare as hens teeth. I purchased a roll of 300 a few years back but cannot find any coloured ones anymore.

Any help on this one is appreciated

If you get a ROM Switcher with 1.3 ROMS you can use a 500+ with no compatability problems, plus you still get the benefits of the standard 2.04 ROMS too. This is the setup I am using and I am presently expanding on it too until I have a nice OCS, ECS based machine for WHDLoad games.
So don't rule out a 500+, just make sure any you buy don't suffer from battery leakage as it can kill the board. Best bet is to remove them altogether.

Also, upgrading the Denise chip (use a ECS 8373 from a dead A500+ instead the OCS 8362) will give the extra-brite modes available (pending on how much CHIP RAM you have).

Using a 512kb RAM expansion on the trapdoor (bringing the A500 to 1Mb of RAM) will let you use this Amiga with virtually all ECS games that are floppy-based.

@Geraldine... That is a cracking idea. A500+ sounds better now. I would have rather had a 500+ but I can remember being told many many years ago that they not as compatible with games so that put me off a little. Thanks :)

@ rkauer... That is also a good idea, however, as I know nothing of amigas is this a simple job?

I knew that the 1200 was good to upgrade but I did not know that the 500 was also... I feel me buying loadsa stuff and being skint again! :lol:

Avery do a box of 250 plain white labels that you can print your own designs on.

Product Number: L7666-25

• For: Diskette-Labelling

Go to your local stationary store or Staples and quote the product number at them as they might have a cheaper alternative brand in stock.

@blankstare... Thanks. I will look into that. I have found a few different ones on a recent search today but not the rolls of proper coloured disk labels I used to buy. They have all dissapeared, which is understandable I suppose.

I have a spare A500, it needs a clean, and I just need to boot it up to test (though it sould be fine) It had a replacement floppy about 6 months ago, and I need to find 2 ( I think) replacement case screws.

Let me know if interested, I would like £35 for it (plus the obligatory P&P).

PPS, I can throw in a 512kb ram expansion board, It had a battery backed clock, though the battery leaked, but I have removed the battery and cleansed the infection of acid and now it works fine.

I also have a boxed a500 that I am prapared to get rid off

but will let Alcatan have first dibs

@Alcatan... I am interested thanks and would love to se some pickies please... Would this come with all bits to use it straight away? What is the condition of the machine, i.e. Yellowing etc? :D

Most people say the best upgrade for the A500 is an A1200, but I have both and the 500 is a great machine.

Put some FAST RAM, a HD controller and ROM 2.x upwards and you'll have an awesome WHDLoad machine for OCS/ECS games & demos.

The 68010 CPU upgrade will be a cherry on the top: with it you can quit from WHDLoad games back to Workbench.

And the upgrades are easy enough: pull the old socketed chips and replace with the upgrades.

Modifications like the 1Mb chip RAM need a few soldering and trace cutting, nothing really hard to do.
