A1200 BPPC problems

Hi all

Today I wanted to watch some demos on my A1200D BPPC+BVision setup.
I have CWB3.9 installed on it, no PPC software (like WarpOS) or BVision drivers are currently installed, just the basic 3.9 with BB1-3, using BlizKick.
The system is powered by a 250W ATX PSU.

Everything worked fine in the past, but now the machine freezes when loading WB.
If I hold down RMB, I can get into the CWB boot menu.
I can choose CLI & run demos, but they dont always work now, sometimes they freeze up the system just like loading WB does :(

I'm talking about a hard freeze, HDD led is lit, caps-lock does not respond, complete shut-down is needed to recover from this.

Any ideas?

First thing to check is that everything is still seated correctly like the BPPC, BVision and Roms.

Also could be the BPPC or BVison getting too hot, are the fans on the PPC working? Do you have any cooling on the BVision?

Try removing everything (BPPC, BVision, RAM, Kickstarts), clean both component connections and amiga connections with a brush or air, and then put everything back on :)
99% that will do the trick.

Will try disassembling & cleaning, again *sigh*

I doubt its a heat problem, I have 3 fans in the case, which keep it really cool.

Check the PSU as well. Or try with another one. but in your case it must be ATX PSU as standard A1200 PSU is not powerfull enough.

Ok, disassembled everything & gave it a good clean.
Now it sometimes boots (1 out of 5), when it boots it seems stable.
I ran a few 060 demos to put some stress on the system & it went well, but after a reset it froze again :(

Regarding the PSU, I measure 5.10V at the PSU connector, but 4.75V on the motherboard floppy connector, under load (the PSU is connected directly to the floppy connector).
Btw, before using this PSU I tested at least 7-8 of them, to see which one gives me the best 5V line.
Most measured 4.8-5.2V without load, all fell below 5V under full load (BPPC + BVision).

Have a look at the below thread, Wasagi had some power issues and ran a cable from the Power Connector to Floppy Header and this cured the problem:

My ATX is connected to both the A1200 power connector and the motherboard floppy connector, so no need for a wire :)

Btw, can anyone recommend a reliable memory tester program?
I want to see if its RAM related & I dont have any spares right now (waiting for a 64MB SIMM to arrive from Jon).

Memtester on aminet. Found loads of dodgy memory using that.

Can any of you guys with a BPPC setup measure the 5V line on the motherboard floppy connector?
I'm now getting 4.5V there, which is way too low.
Measuring directly on one of the PSU's molex connectors gives a steady 5.1V.
I'm going to solder a wire underneath the board now, instead of the wire I have running into the floppy connector, maybe this would help after all.
