Hello guys,
I've installed a scsi Hd in my CDTV and my next goal is to install ClassicWB 68k with a lot of games and demo.
To make this an easy way would be to burn a cd with the file necessary to install classicWB (making a simple files tranferring from draw in the cd to the HD icon) and whdload games and demos.
I tried to burn a cd with the necessary files but it is not seen by CDTV.
Do you have some suggestion? :)
All other CDs works? Only your own not?

On my real amiga I don't have a cd burnes so I have to do this through windows

I've used AmigaSys under Winuae and MasterISO to create my data-cd iso :)

Nothing to do, after a couple of day with the HD working perfectly today when I powered my CDTV I had the same message:
"DH0 is not a DOS disk"

That's not good.
Drop the max_transfer to 0xFE00 (this is 128kb -1byte) and check you didn't accidentally ticked the directory cache box when formatting the partition.

About Mask can I left = 0x7fffffff? :roll:
The CDTV have true FAST RAM? Then the mask is correct, but normally the SCSI controller falls to the next fastest available RAM when the 0xFFFFFFFF value is set.
My CDTV has the standard 1MB of memory + the Elbox ram expansion of 8 MB (that seems to be true Fast ram).
So how could I set Mask with this setup? :roll:

what Kickrom does your CDTV have? are you trying to use a file format that is not supported under KS1.3?
I believe that Classic Workbench requires more than Kick 1.3
I have a cd-Kick with kickstart 1.3 and 3.1 installed :cool:
Naturally for installing ClassicWB I have the ks 3.1 selected ;)

CD-Kick kickstart switcher with KS.13 and 3.1 installed

68010 CPU
W.A.W's CDTV to SCSI interface
IBM hd of 2 GB of capacity (one boot partition of 300 MB and another partition of 1700 MB

Don't worry too much with mask, it will not mess with the partitions structure.
The version of FFS, on the other hand, can do a real mess if it is different from the one stored on the RDB of the disk.
1.3 ROM don't allow anything different than OFS on the HD, no matter what.
Ok, but I use Kickstart 3.1 when installing ClassicWB.
The hd was a 2GB one dated 1996, it was from an Apple computer, but I think it is not a problem.
I'll try again to install ClassicWB, before that I'll do a low level format of the partitions of HD after having set the Max transfert = 0xfe00

The invalidation ever regards the boot partition... should it depend from HD itself? Or from the CDTV to SCSI module?

Some possibilities: bad cable, bad HD and not enough juice from the power supply to cope with the HD.
Bad termination also springs to my mind.
Can you sack any program that try to write to the HD on the boot partition?
The cable is new from Amigakit, so I think it is not the problem.
The HD is connected to the power supply of the cdtv with an Y adapter that power both cd unit and the HD: it could be it the problem, I purchase it from evilbay, but I think it is ok, also the CD unit has always worked fine with the Y cable.
Maybe it could be a problem of termination, my SCSI cable is a 50 cm with 3x connector: one extremity is connected to the scsi module, the other extremity is connected to the HD and the middle one is remained free. Maybe the middle one must be connected to the HD? :roll:
And About HD termination, I've now understand what you mean: I'll check the termonation of the HD, it should ne set to 0, but I don't know for certain. HDTool box see it as connected to the 0 termination
Can you tell us the exact model of the SCSI HD?
I know setting SCSI is a pain on that place where the Sun never shines...
Today I'll check it, hafter having disassembled the CDTV.
A hard work, necessary to do, in fact in the meanwhile also the second partition was invalidated :dry:

Here you are, the model of scsi is IBM DORS-32160.
Looking at the termination it seems correctly done, maybe it needs another jumper to the n.4 to set ID=0 (now it should be ID 0 to default?)
And about the cable may I change and connect the HD to the middle one or it is ok connected to the last one (with the middle empty)?
The cable I've purchased from Amigakit is this:

The Y power cable seems ok, as I said the cd unit works correctly and the HD seems always well powered.
I have some doubt about the advice on the HD "Designed and manufactured to Apple specification".... maybe it is not totally compatible with Amiga? :unsure:

Searching on internet it say that the model is a SCSI3: I think is this the problem, the SCSI module is compatible with SCSI an SCSI2 HDs :Doh:

All SCSI devices are backwards compatible, with the exception of HVD units (High Voltage Differential). Those can kill a normal LVD/SE controller and other devices hooked up (LVD = Low Voltage Differential, SE = Single Ended).
Now, with the model I can search for the datasheet and tell you the correct jumper settings.

After a small read:
-remove all ID jumpers to configure the drive to ID 0 (zero);
-this drive doesn't like passive termination, but it may work if you turn the internal active termination ON, via jumper 6 (counting from the ID jumpers) AND USING THE SHORTEST POSSIBLE CABLE.
If after those modifications the drive still gets corrupted, then you need to source an external active terminator, hook the drive to one end of the 3-connector cable, the controller on the middle and the new terminator on the other end.
Mmm, I have not a smaller cable, on Amigakit there is this one but it is too short and it would not reach the hd

I'll try to connect the module and the the hd to the nearest connections (and the third one, the farthest will remain empty). If it does not work maybe the better solution is to have an external active terminal, but where to purchase one of them?

In the meanwhile I've done as you said, hooking the controller on the middle connector cable and the Hd on one of the end connector cable (the one nearest to the module's connector).
Hope these continue handlings do not damage the CDTV2SCSI controller or the cable (it's a hard work and the space is very small).

Did you set the termination power jumper on?
Without it the active terminator will not receive power, so it will just take the connector, but will do nothing.
If after that you still have corruption on partitions, it's time to change the HD.

There is another jumper, TERM_POWER: set this one to ON, too.
It will provide power through the SCSI cable to feed the terminator.

Excuse me, where is this jumper? I don't see it on the HD jumpers :huh:
Maybe the jumper N. 7?
It can be marked as T/P, TERM_POWER or even SCSI_Power (never saw a drive with this jumper name, but I know it is used, too).
Looking on the picture, this drive doesn't provide termination power to the SCSI chain. I think you have to do a small hack on the controller or on the HD (a simple jumper wire soldered from the power line to the correct SCSI pin).
Did you removed the passive termination on the controller board?
It is a set of three resistors packs on sockets very near the SCSI connector header. Triple termination is not good for SCSI.
The only jumpers on the HD are that you can see in the picture above.
A silly question: on position 6 I've mainteined the jumper as showed in the picture. Maybe I have to put it away to activate the SCSI Termination?
