CyberStorm MK 2 Memory Problems

Hi

I have a problem, today I switch on my Amiga 4000, CyberVision 64, CyberStorm 060 @ 50 Mhz., 128 MB of RAM on CyberStorm and 16 MB of RAM on motherboard and the Amiga only report 16 MB of RAM. Obviously yesterday all works perfectly, I don't install any hardware or software.

I have open the computer and clean the connector board and the SIMMs sockets without any luck. I change th SIMMs and, again, only 16 MB. I try the SIMMs on my Blizzard 1260 and all work perfectly with it.

Any idea what can be wrong?

The SCSI works perfectly, I only hace a 40 GB HD and a CDRW in the SCSI chain and a IDE to CF adapter on the IDE port, without any card on it.

Help, please, this card have been working perfectly the last 12 years :(

Are there any Capacitors on the CSMKII near the Simm sockets? Maybe ones leaking or bit the dust?

Best to get a techy person to have a good look at the Cyberstorm.

Take a photho of the card (both sides), at high resolution. Maybe we could get a better idea of what's wrong.

I have tested the CyberStorm in my Amiga 4000 Tower and the same result, the Amiga doesn´t see the memory in the Cyberstorm, I have tested my other Cyberstorm in my Amiga 4000 and it works perfectly so is clearly a problem with the board not with the computer.

I will post a high resolution photos of the board.

I am afraid to say at this point, its likely a fault with the card - I can only suggest to send this off for diagnostic and repair.

I personally suspect the fault will lie in either 5v being provided to the SIMM Sockets and or a CPLD failure.

I would also suggest one last test - using just 1 4MB SIMM (the least amount of chips on it the better)

should that you get a result - its quite likely a power-feed issue my friend - this will likely be either regulator or a capacitor fault.

I have a not working MKII here, maybe with some ICs swap, I can do something...

But before amigaman2000, change all the tantalum capacitors if you are skilled enough... And see if the fastram is back to life !

Please check solder joints on XILINX CPLD.
This one I've got as "100% dead - black screen":

And found several bad solder joints on this IC so I decided to un-soldr, clean and solder back. Card is working again.
In your case it might be just one bad solder joint. Use magnification glass, needle and check every pin of this IC.

The 060 and SCSI works great in this card so the regulator is OK, the capacitors looks ok for me, but I´m not an expert. I suspect the failutre is in the CPLD chip.

Yes my friend, I think the CPLD have bad connections, but I don´t have the skill, or equipment, to replace it.
