Disaster! :(
The Philips screen, pictured previously, has just this second gone bang! :(
The picture collapsed, the tube went dark, the power LED went out and now there's a high pitched whining noise.
Turn the monitor off, and the whining slowly dies down as the capacitors discharge. Flyback transformer.
Oh dear :( Another nice Philips bites the dust! I've had this one for years.
I wonder if I can find a replacement flyback and fix it. I'd just have to do its caps, too... :)
That, I don't know..
I've not tried to repair a CRT monitor before - fully aware of the dangers and the need to discharge them etc, but not messed with their power circuits.
Time to find a service manual and get reading :(
All I've done with this monitor repair-wise is I've resoldered its RGB plug as it had dry joints.
In the meantime, the 1084S can go back onto the Amiga. :)
Yes, pretty normal, as the horizontal transistors still try to feed it.
I had exactly the same fault on my CM8833-II D0pefish.
the fusible resistor protecting the HOT was open circuit, also
there were several blown components in the psu crowbar circuit:
BT151 Thyristor, 2x 15v diodes and a bc548b transistor were
all shorted. I have a photo somewhere with the components marked out
i think.
Wow, thanks hikey mate :)
Does this mean that there's a chance that the flyback is alright and I've just got a shot power supply?
I'll pull it all apart soon and have a look around.
Hey mate!
Sorry to hear about the screen.
Just be careful if you decide to try and fix it :readit:
All the best.
Steve.
Possibly, but i'm not sure: I did replace the flyback first, but when it
was still whining with the same symptoms I found all these other components faulty. It's very possible (and fairly likely tbh), that it was the flyback that caused the other components to short. It's worth checking
out the parts i mentioned though, they're all located to the left of the yellow mains transformer.

I have a spare flyback (unused) here btw. It's a HR6489. I can't remember off hand which model this is for, but if you get the code off of yours you could do some cross referencing
Sadly it looks like my monitor has a different kind :( Thanks all the same mate.
I whipped off the cover and can see the flyback in my monitor is a Philips AT2079 / 37593 which corresponds to a HR 7533.
Can't see anything obviously fricassee'd yet (unless the darkening of the flyback's case is something?), but I need to discharge the thing and clean it of fluff really
I've taken some pictures an attached them. Have I found the area you are referring to mate?
