Okay, sorry to bother everyone but on most websites I go to there is a distinct 3.1 Kickstart ROM for A600 Amigas and A500/A2000 Amigas. My curiosity is what is the difference between these two Kickstart ROMs? I'm guessing it has to do with the PMCIA slot? Thank you for any information. I am finding it a little difficult to find a 3.1 ROM for my A600 as Amigakit doesn't have any listed.
Short answer: nothing at all. The 40.63 kickstart is universal for all 16bit machines.
The 3.1 ROM will work flawlessly with A500/A2000 & A600, the Amiga parts not present will not be loaded.
For example, the PCMCIA code will check for the Gayle's response on the PCMCIA port. If this ROM is installed on an A500, there's no Gayle, the code will fail and that "module" will not be active.
Same for the same chip installed on A600: the ROM code will check for Zorro cards (A2000 cards, of course). Since there will be not any, this part will be skipped.

Thank you for the information. Since it functions in the A600 I am one step closer to making my WHDLoad machine. Now all I need is an ACA630, the indivision, and a CF adapter and drive and I will be good to go!
You forgot the A603, which is the only 1Mb RAM expansion with the Indivision socket.
Sorry. I forgot to mention I already have that. My little A600 has a Viper030/40 with 4MB of RAM and an A603. People in the ACA630 thread say it's very good and so I will be replacing my Viper with it and moving that way. I'm not certain what I will do with the Viper though.

Are you nudging that you are interested in my Viper Accel there Zetro? I'm not certain what I will do with it after I get an ACA630 but it was modified when I got it. Someone put rubber feet on the bottom to make it sit flush with the board which makes the card look cumbersome. Also it only has 4MB of ram. I know there are the spots for the extra 4 but that's beyond me. It also doesn't have a 68882 either, so technically it's not the best it can be. I think I will hold on to it for the moment, but that could change at any moment. :)

I am only teasing my friend, alas my pocket money is well and truly spent for some time LOL.
The Viper cards are still quite nice little beasties and can still find a loving home. Sure it's only 4MB of 24-bit FastRAM, but that's enough for most Amiga-y tasks. In some ways, the 4MB version is better than the 8MB, since the full 8MB would rule out the PCMCIA port.Quote:
