Xbox ftp help
Hi all, just wondering if any of the networkers on here could give me some advice.
I have several original xbox's, all are TSOP flashed and work perfectly.
I am currently trying to ftp some emulators over to one of them using my laptop.
I have been ftp'ing files back and forth to xbox's for years so have set up static ip address, 192.168.0.1 on the laptop and 192.168.0.2 on the xbox and am connecting directly with a crossover cable.
Here's where the problems start, downloading from the xbox to the laptop i get constant speeds of 6-8MB/s which is fine.
However uploading from the laptop to the xbox is a different story and i get only 10KB/s.
I'm using the latest build of FlashFXP and Windows XP.
I've also tried Filezilla and Bulletproof Ftp.
I've tried a different crossover cable and i've tried using a router in between.
If i use a different PC i get upload speeds of 10MB/s so that puts the problem squarely on my laptop.
I have reformatted it and fresh installed winXP and still only getting 10KB/s.
Is there anything else i can try or does it seem like i have a duff ethernet port?
Mike

Well, you have done almost everything.
What you can try is to put ethernet switch between Xbox and PC.
I'm using hacked Xbox1, but never had a problem you mention...
-
Hi stachu, is the network switch not the same as the router?
-
Well, not really.
But most of the popular routers I've seen are equipped with 4-port switch.
So if your router is equipped with ethernet switch - yes you can use it.
-
its a d-link dir-615 n router with 4 port switch and i've already tried using that and it made no difference.
I also have a basic 10/100 hub which i tried and that also made no difference.
I think i'm just gonna have to say the laptop ethernet is a dud and try using the other pc.
Problem there is the pc and xbox are in different rooms, 1 upstairs 1 down, and i have to keep running round the house to transfer some files.

I have no other idea, sorry...
Never had such problem with my hacked Xbox1.

what happens if you upload from your laptop to your PC?
have you ticked all the boxes for the configuration on your laptop? Is it possible your laptop is accidently in passive mode or visa versa
I do most of my uploading from my SAM to my Xbox and never tried from the work laptop to the xbox
-
Hi Slayer, passive mode is diabled, not tried uploading from the laptop to the pc.
Also tried switching dashboard on xbox from evox to avalaunch to xbmc to unleashx all have made no difference.
*EDIT*
Well i tried uploading to my pc, speed slightly increases from 10KB/s and fluctautes between 20-50KB/s

You need to look at the config for your laptop, check out the services like buffer and cache sizes for your TCP uploading criteria... I'm not using the exact terminology because I can't remember it or don't know it lol
Even under Roadshow on 4.1 SAM I increased some settings in regards to sizes... perhaps you have a different MTU (max transfer unit) for your laptop uploading etc...
I say this must be a problem with a config because since it downloads quick enough it should upload just as well...
and remember, google is your best friend ;-)

I dont know the software you're using but most people forget about the physical layer...
Its also possible there is some noise or line attenuation (or even poor connection) either on the cable going one way, or on the actual pins of the network card.
Here is a diagram of the pinouts and what each cable connected to the pins is responsible for.
TX = transmission
RX = Reception

If you have discovered the cable is fine on another laptop or pc going the same way (ie no cable damage to the small internal cables causing poor connection), try cleaning the pins on the network card in your laptop.

Also to see if its the cable or not, you could try reversing the cable (Xbox end in the PC and vice versa). You should then have the same problem with the opposite end being slower if the cable is to blame.
If all the settings are defaults there shouldnt be that much of a difference...
