68k AmigaOS (1.0 to 3.9) can be run on all 68k Amigas, and under emulation with WinUAE.
For the newest AmigaOS 4.x and beyond you'll need an Amiga with a PPC accelerator (like CyberStormPPC for A3000/A4000 or BlizzardPPC for A1200), or the new next-gen machines, like AmigaOne, Pegasos2 or Sam440ep/460ep (not possible via emulator though).
Okay sweet, thanks Phantom.
Anytime mate.:)
3.1 runs better with some fast ram
3.5 and 3.9 need an 030 some fast ram and a cd drive
1 - 3.9 run nice in winuae
os4.0 and above need about a grand:p
lol nicely put!
I have 3.1 on my A1200 system which has now been upgraded to an 030/28 w/ plenty of RAM. My CF card (Via PCMCIA adaptor) wont format however, I get a system message telling me its write protected?! (CF cards have write protection???...)
I formatted it in a PC with FAT(16) and the miggy appears to see it fine in the prepcard menu. Any ideas?
@AmiNeo,
Some CF Cards just refuse to work in PCMCIA on Amiga, do you have another to try?
Sandisk are the best ones
Edit:
Also, do you have the FAT File system and Compact flash drivers installed?
Well it IS a kingston CF card, but seems to be working differently than in my A600 (that i no longer have) which had lots of trouble with it. It's behaving pretty much normal (showing up as a kingston 2GB on prep card etc) infact aside from the way it tells me its write protected.
As for FAT FS and CF drivers, I really dont know as someone set this up for me, my level of knowledge in Amiga OS is pretty NooB ATM.
How can I check?
Hi Mate, you need to have the following files:
CFD v1.25 ( http://aminet.net/package/driver/media/cfd ) or
CFD v1.27 ( http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/cfd ) and
CardReset ( http://aminet.net/package/util/boot/CardReset ) and
Fat95 ( http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/fat95 )
There are probably some tutorials around if you do a little search.
Hope that helps,
Steve.
