Dilema - Help me decide

Hi all

I'm building a nice A4000 classic system here.
Currently I have A4000 with CS PPC 060 and EGS Spectrum.

I would like it to pimp it with best possible hardware I can find and make it really the machine I can be proud of.

By lucky coincidence I've acquired two new graphic cards. Cybervision PPC and Picasso IV with preserved SD/FF module. (I will post pictures when they arrive.)

Which card would you put in A4000 PPC system?

As SV PPC is connected directly to accelerator, It’s most certainly faster and it has twice as much ram and 3D capability.
Picasso IV has integrated SD/FF and is full of nice features...

One of them will have to go... EGS Spectrum as well. I have spent too much money on Amiga hardware in last 2-3 weeks. More than I can afford at this point in time.

Would you keep CV PPC and hope to find Indivision somewhere... Or just stay with complete solution of Picasso IV?

Or can you suggest another, better solution?

Keep the P-IV. It's a better all-round solution. With the other two graphics boards you'll need a separate FF so you'll have to have 2 monitors or switch between monitor inputs.

If you use AGA-screens a lot (or can't afford an Indivision) I would consider the PIV otherwise I would go for the CVPPC every day.
Most monitors today have two inputs anyway and they're easily selectable with a button on the front. CVPPC+Indivision is the best in my opinion.

CS PPC Vision card, it works like a charm on my Samsung P2770H, no need for an FF.
Ok, I admit it's a ***** to setup, but if you pull the right strings, she'll produce an amazing picture :D
Oh and she's a real piece of fire, so you need to chill her out with a good coolingblock and fan :D

CVPPC is much much faster in 24Bit screen modes than PIV. The PIV starts loosing performance once you go over 1024 x 768 24Bit, but the CVPPC will steam into 1600 x 1200 24Bit as if it wasn't there.

PIV does has a FF/SD built in so you can still use native Amiga screen modes when you need to.

If you can afford it, have both or better still, just go CVPPC for the speed & quality & fit an internal DCE FF/SD for your native screen modes. :thumbsup:

I can't vote on this as the two cards are miles apart & have very good attributes in different directions.

Thanks all. Decision is made. It's CVPPC then.

I will keep PIV for a while...
I'll see if I'm going to sell it or not, but unfortunately this will greatly depend on my bank statement, and not my wishes.

Since there's room... why not have both?

although arguably the PIV's 24bit RTG wouldn't be as good as the CVPPC, however there's that wonderful 24bit scan doubler =)

To be fair though, you could sell on the PIV and plumb for a Indivision AGA, then with a little bit of hackery - get some auto-switching going

It would be great if I things play out this way. I've been drooling over Indivision AGA A4k for quite some time now... :)

And then I'll stop with hardware upgrades, and concentrate on the cooling...

OK. Maybe a Deneb and that's it...

...and a Toccata, and a... no. That's really it. :-)

The PicassoIV is a great card but I think it compliments and 040 (or non PPC 060) machine a little better. I have one on my A4k with Apollo 4040 and I wouldn't change it for the world.

But with PPC I would go Mediator/Voodoo - Sure I'd take a CVPPC but finding one, hmmm :ninja:

You could sell as Zetr0 suggested the Picasso IV then put the money toward the Indi AGA/Deneb, etc.
