Hi all
I have noticed that the numeric keypad does not work on my A1200. The ( works but thats it. I have reseated the ribbon cable, but still no joy. It's a shame because it's a nice white keyboard as well!
Any ideas as to what the problem may be?

Right, just checked the ribbon cable from the keyboard and it looks ok to me. I don't think I want to know the answer to this question, but is it possible that part of the keyboard MPU has failed, or the connections to the white keyboard connector on the motherboard has gone? :(
This being the case, I might as well scrap the 1200 and just get another one as won't have the time or skill to fix that.
Any recomendations?
Partially burned keyboard MPU is highly unlikely.
Check the graphite ends of the cable against the light. Often the damage is just a scratch made by white board connector.
If ends are scratched, you can fix it by trimming the cable by 1mm and gain full connector contact again. Or if you can find some conductive paint, you can fix the affected pad with it.
Hi, I just found a spare keyboard (yellowed with odd stains on the keys...:thumbsdown:) and that works! So, I will have another look at the ribbon of the iffy keyboard and just trim it. Nothing to loose!Quote:

No luck, I will just have to get another keyboard. Annoying, because it's really clean, I cleaned each key myself in a weak solution of retrobright (home made). And yea, I could swap all the keys to the working keyboard but...
1) That leaves me with no spare
2) Can't be bothered.
Dear AmigaFun,
you retrobrighted (R) your old keyboard...surely that involves taking the keys off of the keyboard.
Why not remove keys from new keyboard and put nice white keys from old keyboard on them?

The keyboard membrane replacement is all you need. Keep the the keyboard or sell it here for someone in need.
BTW: normally the membrane breaks on the place where it passes through the metal cage (too much flexing). It is a hard place to repair, but it's not too hard for people that have the knowledge.

I think Airey36 on't other Bay is selling used Membranes at the moment :)
