Joystick Port on my A600 playing up :-(

Hey Peeps.

I've noticed a fault develop on my A600, the one I've got the ACA630, Indi ECS, etc installed in.

The Joystick directions have stopped functioning correctly.

If I press UP on the joystick the Amiga registers UP & LEFT (Diagonal Left)

If I press UP and RIGHT (Digagonal Right) nothing happens.

DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT and lower Diagonals are working fine.

No pins are broken on port that I can tell, at first unplugging and reinserting the joystick cleared the problem but now its stuck like that.

Obviusoy I've tried serveral known working pads n sticks and they're all doing the same thing :(

Any tips where to start?

Edit - I already made sure the Rom and ACA were seated correctly - should I try another Rom?

The fault is apparent in both 1.3/3.1 rom modes on the switch

Mine is visiting uk as well due to various small probs cap related:( I literally had one blowing smoke out of it near to the psu connnector. Might be a good idea to check them as well. A few caps looked a bit fatter then usual.

Hey Jurgen, that sucks my friend. I hope you get it sorted without too much trouble.

Well FOL is right about my cause, the A603 seems to be the culprit as removal stops the issue.

I've just cleaned the connector with some IPA and will try again once its dry :)

Ok, put it all back together and still the same :(

Removed Indi ECS and its working fine.

Do you think the problem here is the Indi ECS or bad connection caused by the tight fit against the ACA630?

The Indi ECS touches the ACA CPU socket and causes the A603 to sit at a slight angle.

Guess I could remove the ACA630 but I don't really want to remove the screws and re-fit them for no reason.

you defnitely have IndiECS contact issues as the denise chip performs part of the mouse / joystick positioning logic. IndiECS emulate Denise so it's likely the cause.

Have you tried another DIL Riser, failing that reflash the Indi firmware.

I've just pulled the ACA and as you suggest must be an issue in with the Indi ECS as the fault remains :(

I've just cleaned the contacts on the socket, so after that is dry I will try again.

How would a reflash solve things if its contact issue?

The reflash for me would be a last resort if I wasn't able to improve things by checking for good contact on all pins using a multimeter.

Who knows maybe something in the firmware or onboard config may have gone astray, hence the re-flash.... wouldn't make matters worse would it :lol:

Good call, well I have no Multimeter here so can't check for continuancy :(

But will go and see if the clean up helped in a little while, gotta pick up Mrs Fitz from the station, I don't think 'sorry I'm late - was fixing the A600' would go down too well :stick:

This old post on EAB suggests it probably is a connection issue.

I don't think re-flashing is going to help here.

I would suggest fit the aca first without screws, fit the a603 and keep it in place with a bit removable hot glue and then fit the indivision ecs pressed firm. This is for me the only way without a socket riser, and even then it fails after a while and needs to be pressed again.

I have lost the word in English but there are sockets you can cut, bas will for sure have the right name for this. It is a good idea to have them if not for now for future hacking.
