1N914 is a Germanium diode. IIRC, 400mA x 50V.

I had lots of 1n4148's. They work fine as well.

Hey I am trying to sell a cheap alternative kit to save some miggys - If you do not like this service do it yourself better. I am quite ****ed of by people who have only questions but no input. The only thing that interests me is to deliver better goods but you are not informative on that side.

I am not real mad but I like clear improvements. I like a good deal for everyone. If this can be improved it will so PM me if you have any improvements but please make it simple and clear and do not go in discussion in a for sale thread. I know the voltage drop is lower in practice with this one, it is not 0.60 of course

No Problem my friend. It can be made fitting but it will hit some components, so if you like a very neet result you be better use a real fitting nimh alternative and pray nothing happens to it wich is normally not the case original was nicad. Electrically this works for all amigas

To share a situation I had with this solution...

If the button battery is fitted too high on standard A4000D, it could be a problem for large cards that require video port of the daugtherboard. Video port is placed very close to the motherboard and some cards extend all the way down to the battery. (Picasso IV is an example.)

So if having this or similar setup, you should make the pins as short as possible.

For the people who are in doubt about direction of the diode notice the black part on it.

I have these as well they have one disadvantage the metal is not perfect in the plastic any longer. And to get it in some plastic gone and glue is needed.

I didn't make a solution because I don't use such card, but your solution seems to be near perfect. A few drops of good epoxy resin and that would be it!

Packed - When paid I will ship it today.

Just a little update. I fitted one of Jurgen's battery kits to my Apollo 1240. The old battery was just beginning to leak! :o So I got it out just in time :nod:. Soldered in the battery holder with the diode thingy and it is working just great, keeps time and doesn't foul fitting the board back in the trapdoor slot.

I am very pleased with the result, incidentally if anyone is going to fit one to an Apollo board I fitted mine on the same side as the '040

Going to try the 500+ mobo next :)

I don't want to be a pain, but to clarify the meaning of the numbers..

the reverse voltage is how much voltage you can apply against the diode which the peak is 75v the amigas full power on this line is 12v, before any resistors. with resistors you'll get around 3.3v to 5v on the location of the + of the battery. So this diode is good enough.

the 0.62-0.72 that you write is much much voltage that the diode needs to open up for the current, which also means that you loose the same amount of voltage after the battery. measuring the voltage between gnd of the battery and the Katode side will produce 2.38 - 2.28 volts. read the drawing below values have been rounded.

GND --> Battery --> diode -- +2.3/2.4V

There are many diodes that can be replaced for this, but jvdbossc' solution is good.

As a detail, I can recommend bending the diode vertically instead of horizontally. this gives more work, but is better then there isn't so much space in height..

Here is my attempt with my 500+. I snapped off the positive leg and ran the diode from the top of the holder using the gap as a well to hold a blob of solder, in effect the diode itself becomes the positive leg running down the side of the holder, then once it was secure on the mobo, sealed it all up with hot glue to make sure. It is not pretty, but it is solid.

Just a quick information: the voltage drop out on diodes is related to about 10% of its maximum current.

Now, the RPC501 real time chip used on most Amiga hardware consumes a bit less than 1mA with the machine turned off.

On the above situation the voltage drop out is almost insignificant, even using ordinary silicon diodes.

Anyway I prefer Schottky diodes because their very low voltage drop to allow squeezing even the last drop of the battery's charge. ;)

The Kit arrived and is all installed perfectly.
