Z3 RTG card

So now that I have my very own Amiga 3000, I'm kind of curious to see what kind of performance boost an RTG card can provide. I'm not looking for anything terribly mighty (and I have no need at all for 3D acceleration,) just something that:

• Is a Zorro III card.
• Is fast.
• Has VGA output. (Do RTG cards generally provide pass-through video from the ECS output?)

Being as this is mostly an experiment and not something I really need, I'm not looking to drop a whole lot on it; certainly less than $100 US + S/H, hopefully more around $50. Anybody have something they're looking to get rid of?

From what I see from your requests, only a few RTG will fit.

I recommend you the GVP Spectrum 28/24, which is not a speed demon (will drawn circles around ECS screens, anyway), but have built-in passtrough.

It is Z2-Z3 auto-sense, have Picasso96 & CGX3/4 support and, more important, it is the card for people on a budget.

Hmm, interesting. Now I just have to find someone who has one...

the GVP Spectrum 28/24 dose have pass through but if you want to see anything your monitor needs to sync down to 15khz

took a couple of days for me to get that one :oops:

The OP has an A3000 that has built in Scan Doubler right?

So should be ok :thumbsup:

Yeah, the A3000 has a scan-doubler (which works beautifully with my monitor :D) Does the Spectrum's pass-through work with the 3000's VGA output?

The a3k vga out (scan doubler / flicker fixer) work perfectly through the passthrough of all RTG cards I have tried, including the Spectrum 24/28 (which is a nice card, especially for the price).

Learn something new everyday - I thought the Spectrum 24/28 was Z2 only!

It does. It's nice, one of the better cards in terms of picture quality and as mentioned it takes advantage of the Z3 bus (I measured around 7-9 MB/s IIRC). 800x600x16 felt pretty zippy when I had mine going in the A3K.

Hi, I have an EGS Spectrum Zorro II/III (it does take advantage of the ZIII) from GVP. It's actually brand new, old mail order stock. It includes the disks and the pass-through cable so that you can use a single monitor. Amiga out->EGS Spectrum via cable and EGS Spectrum->Standard VGA.

If you're interested, make me an offer -- I'd love to sell it. I have a bunch of stuff from a former US Amiga mail order company liquidation. I haven't even had the time to go through it all.
