Where are you getting the $59 figure from abraXXious? After paying $70 through his website on this link, I contacted Robert via his PayPal email address questioning the price. His response:
Quote:
The actual price is $79. I'm not sure how you manage to pay $70. I have issued a full refund. If you still want it, go to my website again and refresh or reload the page.
Thanks,
Robert
I've received my refund, so no big deal, but it'd be nice to have an accurate price and the proper link to order from!
Okee dokee, I ordered one, let's see how it goes :)
So, what's the running number of us would be buyers atm?
Not sure WHEN the cards went up to $79.00... but I purchased mine for $59.00 just a few weeks ago.... perhaps Robert is getting a little cheeky and raising the price to suit the "increased demand"?
In any event, he has sold out the four available cards (not sure at WHAT price though), and is looking into making more.... again, I have no idea at WHAT price.
Robert has had a few different websites ovre the years and seems to open a new one without actually closing the old ones! Add to that the fact that all the websites look virtually the same.... except have different dates and prices, and you have a very confusing online experience. :(
In any event, I purchased my card at $59.00 including delivery and it is working fine with Poseidon 3.8 (which I prefer to the Sirius stack).
Mine arrived at the weekend, I've not had a chance to install it yet but it was at the $79 but since that included post to UK I'm well happy.
Will be nice in my A4000 :)
Just wanted to say mine arrived today, also paid $79.
Haven't had a chance to try it but it looks to have survived travelling half way around the world in one piece :)
Problem is the price for chips and boards almost doubled this year (as even Individual Computers announced some time ago).
I e-mailed Robert a few days ago and he told me that if enough interest he will ask for more boards, but the price raises to almost the double.
Ouch! Why don't our paychecks almost double too? :(
Still, it's totally understandable that Robert doesn't want to do it for negative profit. I'm still interested though, if the price doesn't go too much over the 100 AUD marker.
I got mine in the mail yesterday and immediately installed it in my a3000 :)
The install disk had a few bad sectors. I was able to get it installed and working, though, by looking at the packages on there and grabbing them off the web.
I have tested it with a mouse and keyboard, and it's awesome! However, it makes my a3000 slow. It's got 2mb chip, 16mb fast, it isn't accelerated just running the 030. I should say that I'm using os3.9. Is anyone else having issues with speed?
Also - I installed the poseidon USB stack and disabled the one included with the card. I'm not 100% familiar with poseidon and how the Amiga handles file systems. I do have a thumbstick that I was hoping to use to transfer files back and forth with my linux pc. However, when I plug the thumbstick in, it looks like trident can 'see' it, but I don't know how to actually mount and use the filesystem...anyone? :)
@esc
My disk reads 100%, would you like me to ADF it for you?
I installed but didn't test with anything yet. The stack was running but I didn't think I had any compatible USB hardware here. You say this stack works with USB Mice?
Need to get a USB Ethernet adapter as I'd like to get this Amiga online.
Steve.
I would certainly be interested in getting one of these if he ends up doing another run.
Heather
+1 for me also... would be awesome to have USB on my A3000!
Az
Sure, if you wouldn't mind (and that wouldn't be breaking any rules) I'd really appreciate it. It seems like most things that I've had shipped from overseas just don't stand up to the abuse of international shipping
I grabbed the latest poseidon (which is FREE btw) and checked out the site he is hosting right now for the thylacine, and there is a driver in there for the card to be used with poseidon. I'm still not even 50% sure how to use the thing but hopefully I'll figure it out :)
He's also got listed some USB hubs that work with the card. I'd like to find one of those that I can use my pc mouse/kb with an a/b switch. Actually, since I use vga on my a3000 anyway, maybe i can get a vga and usbx2 a/b and just use my pc setup fully with the amiga :)
Still, for now, I'd settle for getting my thumbstick to work!
Can someone get this board to run with Poseidon 4.4? I tried mine on my A500 plus with side slot zorro adapter. Got the thylacine.Device from 2004 in Devs:USBHardware and the board is recognized with Poseidon 4.4 and online, but i have no success with an usb key, my usual usb ethernet adapter or anything.
It seems that only Poseidon 3.X can run with the thylacine.
I'm going to try 3.8 if i can find again this version.
Indeed, Poseidon 4.x+ works only with E3B Deneb and Subway USB. The 'keyfile' such as it is for Poseidon 4.x is embedded in the card firmware.
Hodges doesn't support 3.x releases any more, you can't register the shareware version, making Elbox Spider cards useful only as paperweights and making life hard for Thylacine users.
That all said, he was working on an open source build of Poseidon for one of the AROS bounties, not sure how far he got with that, but if he's opened the code for AROS, some enterprising individual could always backport it to classic AmigaOS.
Indeed, i have tried the 3.8 and i need to inject some keyfiles that i do not have as i only have Subway/Algor/Deneb boards.
Unfortunately, as the Sirion stack does not support mass storage, this board is not useful on my A500 Plus, except perhaps for the network adapter.
I've installed Poseidon3.8, which device do I use with the thylacine?
I don't see a thylacine.device driver on the thylacine disk, anyone able to help?
Cheers!
Hi Steve. Okiez, you need to go to the Thylacine website and download the Thylacine device....
Better still, click on this link - http://members.iinet.com.au/~loofy/psdhcd10.lha
Unarc, copy the device across. Open Trident and delete the other devices, then select the Thylacine.device. Click Online and save. Done.
Hey guys, to avoid injury I waited till this morning to test.
Everything is working fine, I copied some files between Amiga and Flash Disk so all is well
Thanks again Abbraxious and for bringing these to the attention of the community
I have one of those 4Way USB Hubs (non powered) can I use that or should I get a Powered one?
Also if anyone can suggest a cheap supported Network adapter on eBay BIN linky I'd apprciate it :ninja:
Cheers!
Stevo.
Here is another link for it http://thylacine.boing.net/updates.html
@Thread, (as I'm sure ya'll know) Poseidon 3.8 needs a registration key so I tried V4.4 from http://www.platon42.de/poseidon.html and its working fine with my setup, so I guess no need to use 3.8 unless you have an Elbox Spider :coffee:
Here ya go:

All working with 4.4
It *may* be that I had it working under 3.8 and then installed 4.4 over it that it continues to work, but all I can is its full working and I don't need to 'inject' a key :ninja:
Steve.
Arghhhhh!!!! Wheres your Birdie and Visual Prefs?!?!? :)
Actually, I have found tha Visual Prefs sems to have little to no speed impact even on a stock A1200.... birdie is another matter, but even that is barely noticable on an 030/25 with rtg.
I dont think I have a single system NOT running VP.... :)

BTW - nice clear image on that LCD... using an Indivision AGA?
Nope - its a PicassoIV @ 800x600x24 = usually I have a more colourful backdrop ;)
(I find it a bit slow @1024x768 or 1280x1024)

Picasso IV with a half decent 030 would not even fell Birdie! Put it on!!!! :)
OS4Theme for Birdie, Visual Prefs, Amidock etc rocks - makes 3.9 look virtually identical to OS4. :)
