Unless you intend to use a GVP phonepak then I recommend you consider a v3.1 too as there are more of them.
Thanks but too many problem with rev 3.1 in A3000 ;) DMA, heatsink...
Then do what I did: upgrade the 040 CPU to a MC part, then upgrade the card to 3.2.
On the A3k put a 3.1 ROM and all will be smooth as silk.

- A3000 notes
- only v3.1 or v3.2 versions of the board work in A3000
- v3.1 works but has problems with certain Zorro cards which use DMA
- v3.2 works correctly
- with Kickstart 2.04 the card does not work with the combination of Ramsey-04 and static column fast RAM
- at least bank 0 should be page mode RAM
- the combination of Ramsey-07 and DMAC-04 works perfectly
- with Kickstart 3.1 there's no such problem
So, for best chance of success in an A3000, you'll want page mode FastRAM (this is cheaper than Static Column anyway and the advantages of SC are lost with an '040), Kickstart 3.1 and a v3.2 A3640.
There are quite a few folks here on the 'bay who can upgrade 3.0 and 3.1 cards to 3.2, so you might want to build that in to your calculations. One assumes that whatever you go for, you'll want the capacitors (a) replaced and (b) in the correct orientation, so if you're getting that work done, you might as well get the GALs upgraded at the same time.
At the time that was written there was only the A4091 (the A4000T's SCSI controller) and FastLane Z3 which used Zorro DMA. Since then only one card has DMA and that is the DENEB.Quote:

If Crash has no intentions of using a DMA Zorro III card, a 3.1 would probably suffice. If he is going for a Z3 DMA card, he'll almost certainly need a Super Buster upgrade as well.
Thanks for your answers mates. In fact, as far I remember, the older revs have taller heatsink sot it cannot fit due to space between floppy drive bay and the heatsink itself. It could be changed easely anyway.
I would like to use a Deneb so I need the DMA. I have already 3.1 roms and last buster rev. I start the project so I do not know what kind of ZIII cards I will put inside later (there is only a Picasso II for the moment). what I am sure, I need to add some ZIII fast Ram...
I think Cosmos has some upgrade kits for 3640.
Ok, is it possible to change the title from "wanted A3640 rev 3.2" to "wanted A3640" ?
